Glad to see they are still going. I know they were near bankruptcy at one time. I think one of the larger shoe manufactures bought them out. Any idea who sells them now?

Always have one pair of black Hi-tops around. I've had yellow, lime green and all black ones & many others. The black ones were like a part of a uniform going to live shows.

Honestly, never owned a pair. My mom always took us to the K-Mart and bought no-name shoes that were sold in bins. Each pair was banded together with a plastic tie. We'd put them on and shuffle over to the mirror to confiirm how weak we looked.
Then when I was 11, (after a year of begging) she bought me a pair of slip-on Vans "Off the Wall" for the ludicrous price of $16.99.
I would wear them to school, then go home, wrap them back in the tissue, and put them back in the box. Put them away til the next morning.
Random.
I made those shoes last an entire school year.

I have a pair of purple ones. The have little Willie the Wildcats all over them. They were given to me as a birthday present in 1982. Only wear them on special occasions.

Wore them to the Fiesta Bowl in 97.

Awesome shoes. If I had a digital camera....

I've had a bunch.

My favorite were glow-in-the-dark cheetah colored ones. I could get away with that in college.

I think.

Noticed that Target had a knock off low-top version of them (in black) the other day for $15.

If you're trying to start a pun war, you're a shoe-in to win. I'll hold my tongue and allow you to be the sole contributor. If I butted in now, I'd really feel like a heel.

Anyway, I never really understood the draw of the Chuck's. There are thousands of outdated shoe designs that look ugly/gay to me, and the All-Stars rank right up there. Why do the Chuck's hold on?

Bob Dole almost got married in a red pair in 1986.

To date, that's the only time Bob Dole has locked his keys in his car (along with his tails and the shiny black rental shoes). Bob Dole should have taken it as an omen and run away right then.

For myself? Not a chance. I only wear high comfort shit these days. But I had a helluva lot of fun with my orange ones back in the day. They were famous. In fact, I bequeethed them to one of my younger friends when I graduated. I'm sure that scored him tons of tail.

My son had a pair when had a red pair that he picked out when he was 3 that he liked a lot, but he also seems to like wearing cowboy boots and has a pair of Shaq Nike's that he calls his "cool" shoe's. I'm not sure who has fugged this kid up more, my wife or me.

As for me, have never had an urge to own a pair. But I did have some white/orange/green Nike's that could could have probably blinded someone had they ever been worn under black light.

Back in High school there was a kid who played for Shawnee Mission East who wore black chucks, even though everyone else wore white shoes. Late in the game, everyone in the crowd would start chanting, "WE WANT BLACK SHOES". Mostly it was because the kid sucked and looked like a geek.

I've got two pair of Chucks right now, Black w/ hot pink accent from this year, (general release) and these neon lime green ones (catalog color is Jungle Green) that were spring '05 exclusives. I've got my eye on the Batman themed pair, complete with nice leather instead of canvas and an icy outsole. Chucks are great utility shoes.

*note, I'm a sneaker fanatic. I know, its pretty screwed up.*

www.zappos.com is a great shoe site for every brand sans Nike, and they have free shipping. You'll find every available colorway of Chuck Taylors there for low prices.

Once, ONCE, I fell to the allure of the Chuck-Ts. It was after Vans had cooled off and before Airwalk had caught on in the skating/freestyle community. Worst pair of shoes I've ever owned. Blew out at the heel within a month.
Chuck-Ts just scream "I want to be counter-culture, but not 'Doc Marten' counter-culture, more of a pussy, suburban, counterculture."

Yeah, for awhile there Converse was struggling to stay afloat, and the materials were substandard. Nike bought them out, and consequently, company wide improvements. (Along with a price hike, though.)
