Tue, 17 Jan 2006 14:41:14 -0800 Jimmy Smith and Mike Triplett, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune (http://www.kffl.com/link/147), report the New Orleans Saints (http://www.kffl.com/team/25/nfl) will hire Sean Payton (http://www.kffl.com/player/9298/nfl), formerly an assistant coach with the Dallas Cowboys (http://www.kffl.com/team/14/nfl), as their head coach. He will become the 14th different head coach in the team's history. The two sides negotiated a multi-year contract Tuesday, Jan. 17, and he is expected to be announced as the team's new head coach sometime Wednesday, Jan. 18. Payton has eight years of NFL (http://www.kffl.com/team/77/nfl) experience as an assistant coach, where he has worked with the Cowboys, New York Giants (http://www.kffl.com/team/26/nfl) and Philadelphia Eagles (http://www.kffl.com/team/29/nfl).

The same Sean Payton who was once stripped of his duties as OC for the Giants due to his gross incompetence in calling the offense.

Great Hire.

Yeah, he was Fassel's wonderboy OC until shitting the bed, Fassel took the reigns - I think it was the super bowl year.

I'd rather have Stoops or Ferentz than one of these clowns.

Mangina looked like the type of guy that couldn't stand up to his own wife. I bet he'll have trouble in the locker room, especially with the veterans.

The Jets might have to suffer a few years until Mangini acclimates because they wanted to lock him up before someone else did. He's got an aging RB, an injury prone QB and a defense that doesn't play to its potential. And we know how patient those J-E-T-S fans are.

Also in regard to the veteran comment...

Eric Mangini born Jan 19, 1971
