Pat Hill out of consideration for the Raider job according to SF Chronicle. I do not think they will pay Saunders what he wants. They will go with an unproven on the cheap IMO.

With Fresno State coach Pat Hill now out of the picture, the Raiders spent Tuesday huddling over what could be another round of interviews -- one that could involve Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt.

Another NFL head-coaching door closed Tuesday when the Saints hired former Raiders candidate and current Cowboys assistant Sean Payton as their head coach. By the end of the week, it's expected that the Rams and possibly the Lions, who might not be inclined to wait on Steelers assistant head coach/offensive line coach Russ Grimm, will fill their head-coaching vacancies.

That would leave the Raiders free to interview coaches from the remaining playoff teams.

Whisenhunt, 43, whom the Rams interviewed by telephone recently, is an attractive candidate who favors a strong running game and has gained fame for his work with quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

The Raiders contacted Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino, but Petrino expressed a desire to remain in the college ranks at least for one more season.

For now, Chiefs offensive coordinator Al Saunders remains the front-runner for the Raiders' vacancy.

However, the team's lengthy interview process is expected to continue into next week, which might tempt Saunders to consider some of the high-paying offensive-coordinator positions opening throughout the NFL rather than wait on the Raiders' decision.
