The liberal slant represented by the Chris Matthews statement(1) is that he's comparing bin Laden's statement with something Michael Moore might have said. By doing so, he's protecting the more "mainstream" voices like Howard Dean and Ted Kennedy by not drawing the comparison with them instead. IOW, Matthews is throwing Moore under the bus to protect Dean, Kennedy, and the rest of the liberal establishment.(2) ROFL
