View Full Version : **Official KU vs. OSU Big Monday Thread**

Never too early to post this on a game day. OSU isn't nearly as strong as they were last season, but either is Kansas. But Kansas' freshman are playing like starting sophomores and they are playing with a lot of confidence. Oklahoma St. on the other hand have lost the last 6 out of their 7 games, and are missing coach Sutton, who everyone knows by now is healing from injuries due to a car accident. I hope Sutton gets better soon. Even though this is probably the worst OSU team I have seen in years, Stillwater can often be a difficult place to play for any opposing team. I think KU can pull this one out, but by no means is it gonna be a blowout. I'm predicting that KU wins by 10-12 points, but mostly by free throws coming from fouls in the closing seconds of the game as KU goes to the line. I think it will be a close throughout the course of the game. KU 80 - OSU 68.

it's weird having this "bad" game (by national statndards) on at 8, when UConn vs Nova is on at 6.

KU will blow them out as long as they don't overlook them.

KU plays better on the road.

OSU SUX this year.

I think it'll be close, too, even though the young Cowboys could completely fall apart knowing they don't have Sutton for the year.

The look-ahead games lined up well this year... I'd be more concerned if we played OSU Saturday & had MU Monday. They have 4 days to worry about MU, so maybe that'll help them concentrate tonight... and the same would go for Baylor/Texas.

It wasn't that long ago tha KU had an RPI in the 140's. Some of the teams ahead of us were completely laughable. They are still making too many mistakes but when they go for 6-7 minutes without mistakes (turnovers), they are awesome. Ask Oklahoma. We have 5 guys 6'8" or taller and 3 of them weigh more than 235#. They also go 10 deep. You can't wear them out and you can't push them around. Typical Bill Self. He beat KU up more than once doing this stuff.

It's been a few years and I still remember the joy of beating his thugs in the tournament (the year after they beat us). The current Jayhawks don't seem to have the same thug qualities as Archibald & Company.... but as long as they're our thugs, it's okay :D

Vitale has his dick so far up Coach K's ass it's really unbelievable. I dunno which planet member it is, but I liked the avatar in which Vitale was giving it to Battier prison style.

DJay23
02-13-2006, 06:18 PM
I don't enjoy Vitale's shtick. The yelling and such is fine when your team is doind well, but when it's not you just want to punch him in the nose. He's always had a boner for KU though, which is good. He mentions them at some point in most of his games. Not nearly to the extent of Duke/ACC, but he does carry great respect for the traditional powers of college hoops.

His knowledge of X's and O's is pedestrian at best IMO. He talks more about the political side of things than the action on the floor. He's far too apologetic and almost never critical unless it is a black and white issue. I'd much prefer Raftery and Bilas as commentators to Vitale. For my money, Jay Bilas is the best color commentator in all of sports broadcasting.

I figured Vitale would be doing the UConn-Villanova game considering the relative "size" compared to KU-Okie State.

This all being said, Vitale doesn't bother me nearly as much as Madden does.

Looking good tonight. I don't want to take anything away from UConn, but I've felt Villanova is overrated this year. They have awesome guards, but if you play them physical, stay in front of them, and get a hand in their faces when they shoot, they are beatable. That being said, no one has had much success with that this year. They are simply fast as hell.

HolmeZz
02-13-2006, 06:22 PM
Nah, Villanova's still very good. They can shoot with any team in the country. As you've seen in the last 2 possessions, it's nearly impossible to pull away from them. They have a bunch of guys who can hit those big shots, even when well defended. Can never feel good regardless of the lead you have on them.

No, I know they are an excellent team. I just think down the road, in the clutch, if that outside shot comes up empty, you're screwed. At least teams like UConn and Duke have a post presence to compensate when things go south from the outside.

banyon
02-13-2006, 06:27 PM
I don't think Nova can win 6 games un the Tourney without Sumpter.

Yeah their guards can shoot them into any game, or out of any game. I think they'll go cold once, I just don't know what round.

That said, they are sure looking Bad-A right now.

I am not trying to use it as an excuse, it is going both ways. This game is more about the refs and their blow jobs than anything else. Announcers keep pumping the "defense" and it is bullchit. Between all the turnovers and whistles neither team can get any kind of rhythm going.

I've noticed this both here and from the announcers:

KU isn't scoring well and it's because OSU is playing great D.

Maybe KU is playing great D and they're missing on O?

I hope the refs get enough of blowing each other at halftime and are to tired to do that chit again!

Well these particular announcers are especially prone to sucking the home teams dick....... no matter who it is.

Aren't you impressed by how hard the Cowpokes are playing....... all the effort they are giving. Especially in relation to how the Hawks are just lolly gagging it up and down the court with no hustle. It is a testament to Coach Sutton, (who just happens to be watching at home) don't you think?

I think it's more of a statement about their coach is sitting at home. They probably got a "win one for the gipper" speech from the coach's son and their new coach.

I wouldnt even say decent. They outplayed us the majority of the game. Luckly, they were so terrible that we were in the game the whole time. If we played like shit like we did tonite against a mediocre team, we would have lost this game. The game IMO was alot close than what score indicated. Good Lord how many turnovers did Kansas have? We play like we did tonite, we may lose to Missouri on Sat......at home :Lin:

Remaining schedule is very favorable:

Mizzou - Saturday
Baylor - Tuesday
@ Texas - Saturday
Colorado - Wednesday
@ K-State - Saturday

Obviously the Texas game will be tough. The rest of the games are very winnable. I like the spacing of the games too. I predict 4-1 down the stretch to finish 22-7 (13-3). I thought we'd lose tonight and we played poorly enough to do so if not for that one run down the stretch and OSU completely sucking ass.

IF they play like they did tonight on Saturday, there is something wrong. I blame this sluggish game on fatigue, which will be taken care of by Saturday. Missouri is not good. Arguably better than OSU. And it being in AFH, plus the revenge factor...

Could you be any more pessimistic tonight? Really. You need to remember this is a team that starts three freshmean and two sophomores. They are winning--now eight in a row--sometimes with a late run, sometimes by 20, sometimes in sloppy fashion. Bottom line is, they're winning.

On the game:

Any road win in conference for a young team is good. The Bookies in Vegas thought it'd be close with a 3 point line. Chalmers and Robinson weren't quite as dominant as they've been recently. OSU has some pretty quick, if inexperienced guards too. Their crowd was intense tonight, really amped up the Brokeback cowgirls on D. KU had the advantage down low with our size, and eventually, IMO that wore them down. Bill Self's constant schemes of multiple picks and screens to get uncontested dunks are really amazing. We didn't shoot particularly well, but we hustled and gave effort on the other end. Good attention-getting game for a young team. RCJHKU :KU:

speaking of vegas (or at least Reno), nice win for the Nevada Wolfpack over the 2nd place team in the WAC. Them winning that conference makes the early loss better in the tournament committee's eyes.
