These are some photos of St Marteen Airport, French West Indies. The planes impress most people on the beach, flying over just seconds before touching down at Princess Juliana airport. Paradise for the beach lovers, having a lovely tropical beach, and for the aviation fanatics that spends hours on end observing the very low flying skills of giant commercial plane pilots.

12 Boeing 747s operate daily to St. Marteen. The heavy jumbo is the most impressive of all and attracts the looks of everybody around..

No sir, I haven't a clue where these came from. Do you ? If you took them yourself, then I stand to believe they are true, after all , I do know you.

I just find it hard to believe they would put an airport so close to the water and public to land so close like that.

I got these pix via e-mail a month or so ago. Was tempted to start a thread, but decided they are photoshop. Some of the shadows cast by the jets don't jive.

That does sound like a lovely time.

Time to Relax:

A couple of Coronas, the gentle ocean breeze, and the deafening roar of jet engines directly overhead.

I thought so too until I went to the airport's webpage and viewed the pics/videos. It exists but then again did we really land on the moon?

Agreed, check out how the one guy in the photo is balanced on the curb. And the other guy isn't really clutching his car. Their hair isn't moving, nor the car guy's clothes.

Plus the angle off approach looks like it took off from the water.

Ever been on a tarmac? It don't look like this.

I don't have any cool pics like this. All I have is a pic I snapped off the balcony of my hotel suite in Galveston a few years back, of some guy flying in, what can only be described as, a go-cart motor attached to a propeller and parachute. He would buzz the beach every 30 minutes or so.

Wow......

St. Thomas USVI is similar, but not that close.

Kinda curious if #3 actually landed, seeing as how his landing gear isn't even all the way down in the back.

Usually they put the gear down when you're like 5 minutes out.....

It would be embarrasing to the airline if they knocked someones head off.

I used to think those photo's were fake but a little research and sure enough the are real. Had a friend that lived there in SM and verified that was the case because of geographic issues. He said that part of the beach area is now closed off now to the public.

I think Saggysack is a fake. I don't see anyone on the beach holding their hands over their ears. If you were standing that close to a landing jumbo jet, the noise would be so loud that you could lose your hearing. You wouldn't be able to stand it. I've worked with jets. In my view, KC Dan is a fake.

There's video at http://www.simradar.com/Feature/Misc_Videos/Misc_Real_Footage/

If you scroll down to "AF747 jetblasting" they actually pan from the jet to the strip of beach and you can get a good overview.

That's exactly what I was thinking....how in the world can you give that close of access to landing planes?

But....in San Diego, there's hotels that planes fly right over and there's a parking lot that is literally 200-300 feet from the start of the runway.

So who knows.

Nah, all they really have to do rather than shout out "fake, phony, conspiracy, etc" is to go to the 2nd website I provided and watch the actual videos of planes landing/taking off. But, some just like to mess with people and get a response and others are just too stupid & lazy to do any effort, ie - pull their pants up, close the porn window on the computer, & learn something.

FYI those pics are real and none of them are doctored. It is only the 747's and the airbuses that require the entire length of the runway. Which is why they are so low.

Airstrips on islands are typically shorter in length. If you were to see a pic of a 747 landing in Denver International for instance, you would see that the aircraft doesn't need to come in low. It has one of the longest commercial runways in the nation.

If you've ever seen pics of planes landing in Hong Kong, you'd think twice about ever flying there. But, the mere fact is- the bigger the airplane, the more runway it needs. If the runway is a short one, a seasoned pilot will know to land early and use as much runway as possible.

I'm not sure if it's Hong Kong, but there is a southeast Asian island country that has an airstrip where the planes literally have to do a 180 just to land, and the runway itself is no longer than that at St. Martens. Not to mention, it's covered most of the time in dense fog making it one, if not the most dangerous airport to fly into.
