Word has it the kid's been kicked off the team. Absolute stud player and potential top-10 pick in '07.

Will try and enter the draft via appeal or go the supplemental route.

No link yet.

Brooks dismissed Chris Wallace

Rivals.com
It has been a long, tough stretch for Virginia coach Al Groh, as he has faced off-field problems with a couple of key players, as well as the task of rebuilding his coaching staff after four departures late last year. It seemed as if football and recruiting had become the focus again, until this week anyway. CavsCorner.com has learned that one of UVa's top players has been dismissed from the team.

Be hella interesting to see where this guy goes in the draft. He has character and injury concerns, but he has unbelievable (top-5 overall) talent.

I'd love to have him, though he'd probably go high in a supplemental draft. I think he'd be able to transition into OLB.

Don't think anyone would use more than a 3rd on him for the supplemental draft.

I think teams would be willing to drop a 2nd rounder as long as we don't find out Brooks has been let go because of some horrific reason. Tony Hollings was taken with a 2nd rounder by the Texans a couple of years back, though that may speak more to the Texans being idiots.

If Manny Wright commands a 5th and Clarett is taken outright in the 3rd (no matter how stupid that team was), then Brooks is EASILY worth a 2nd.

He's infinitely better than both of those players ever were.

Guys, the kid still has his pro days ahead of him. Remember how Wesley impressed during his pro days, though he was a late addition he still got drafted.Ahmad Brooks will excel during his workouts, and will be drafted on the first day.

My bad, I thought he was still a sophomore.

EDIT: Since the last date to declare for the draft has already passed, he will have to petition the league, as stated earlier. Considering how strict the NFL is, I'd assume it's going to be the supplemental draft for him.

Don't think anyone would use more than a 3rd on him for the supplemental draft.

Didin't see him play this year, but last year he was projected as a top ten pick if he would have came out after his sophmore season. There was a loop-hole that would have allowed him to have done just that IIRC.

He underachieved this year and had a multitude of character issues that arose. He didn't come out into this draft partly because his stock had taken so much of a hit.

Getting kicked off the team, just cemented him as a 2nd day draftee, IMO.

U.Va. officials say Brooks not dropped

University of Virginia officials, responding to an Internet report, said yesterday that star linebacker Ahmad Brooks is still on the school's football team.

A Web site devoted to U.Va. sports, citing unidentified sources, reported yesterday morning that Brooks has been dismissed from the team and would try to play in the NFL this season. CavsCorner.com, which is not affiliated with U.Va., said Brooks' dismissal stemmed from a recent "off-field incident" on which its sources would not elaborate.

After speaking yesterday with coach Al Groh, U.Va. spokesman Jim Daves told The Times-Dispatch that Brooks' "status on our football team has not changed. He is a member of our football team."

In an e-mail to the T-D, Virginia Ath- letic Director Craig Littlepage said, "Ahmad's eligibility to participate has not changed." But a source close to the U.Va. football program expressed surprise yesterday that Groh had said Brooks was still on the team.

The T-D's attempts to reach Brooks' family yesterday were unsuccessful.

Should Brooks leave the U.Va. program prematurely, he might be eligible for the upcoming NFL supplemental draft.

So what is the reasoning for Brooks getting kicked off the team. I know he has character issues, but does anyone know the specifics?

maybe KC can get Brooks cheap now. If they have the sack to pull the trigger on this deal.

Considering Brooks talent if he does end up in the Supp draft it's probably going to take a high pick to get him.
