So, who's a fan here? I first heard them in 1986, seen them play a long time ago with Jon Arch, the original singer. Jim Matheos is one hell of a songwriter, and gets literally no credit for it. Excellent musucians, including Mark Zonder - one of THE best drummers, ever to play. I love 'em, anyway; Anyone who likes music that is technically sound, tight and done without flaw, and lyrics that aren't just ridiculous rhymes strung together about teenage angst, beer and pussy (not that there's anything wrong with that - I also love the Bon Scott era AC/DC) should go right out and download the entire "Pleasant Shade of Grey" CD...a very moving piece of work.

Just thought I'd check.

I've never kept up with them all that much. They're more prog metal, like Dream Theater, whereas I'm more into Power Metal, and I only pay attention to a handful of prog metal bands (DT, Symphony X, OSI, that's about it). I know that FW had one singer I liked and one that I didn't like, but I couldn't say whether it was the first or the second one. They did this song called "One" (I think that was the name of it). The guy who sang that one is the one I liked.

Way back in the 80s, I used to listen to the song "Kyrie Eleison," which I heard from the River's Edge soundtrack. That song kicked ass.

I hear the name alot, but have never heard anything by them. Which, considering my general music preferences, is very surprising.

They sort of sound like a cross between Dream Theater, Queensryche, and Iron Maiden.

I probably need to check them out. I really enjoy Iron Maiden and Queensryche. :)

I saw them with Dream Theater and Queensryche in Tulsa in 2002. They put on a pretty good show. I hadn't really heard much of them up until that point. I know I had seen them occasionally on Headbanger's Ball back in the late 80s, but I never bought any of their albums.

When I bought my first MP3 player about 2.5 years ago, it came with a free 100 songs download from Emusic.com. Well, they didn't exactly have much mainstream stuff. But I did find some great stuff in there. I ended up downloading 2 Fates Warning albums - A Pleasant Shade Of Gray and Disconnected. Both are solid prog. Very good stuff. :thumb:

I swear I heard them at a VFW in the early 90's in KC, or something like that. I don't remember walking away impressed.

Well, you've established that prog isn't up your musical alley, so that makes sense.

Eh, when I was younger I listened my favorite heavy metal band was Anthrax and also enjoyed Megadeth as well. Still do from time to time, but for some reason I find most of it lacking now, not sure in what, just something isn't there. Though I do use a couple of there songs on my mp3 player, for working out with.

I'm legitimately confused. :)

You quoted a sentence referencing prog, which was posted based on your admission that Pink Floyd, etc makes you sleepy.

You quoted that and posted about two bands that have nothing to do with prog, Anthrax and Megadeth. Two (Thrash) Metal bands.

Well, I'm just kind of saying that my tastes have changed a lot over the years, and like just about anything that I like. I dislike Rush because I can't stand the lead singers voice, thats all I can say about them, cause I can't get passed that. But someone else said they were a prog metal band, which is kind of what I remembered about them.

If you mean Rush, they're prog, but not prog metal. They're prog rock, like Yes, Kansas, ELP, etc.
