I'm looking for an LCD remote to work these devices: Toshiba TV, Onkyo Receiver and CD Changer, Tivo Series 2, Phillips DVD Player, Samsung DVD Recorder, Yet unknown VCR, DirecTV H10 Receiver, and an Xbox.

In all honesty, I don't want a remote that leans heavily upon macro commands, b/c by home theater setup is a bit quirky and I like to do a couple of things at once (listen to the CD player while playing the Box, for example). If anyone has any specific advice or recommendations on the Sony or Harmony universal remotes, or advice towards another one, I'd appreciate it.

I have the Harmony remote and it's worked very well for me.

I have a Marantz receiver, Sony DVD player, 10+ yr old VCR, Digital Cable box that's ~ 3yrs old and it works them all flawlessly

Running multiple things at once is a bit more tricky and I've yet to set up the function that will play CD's while Im playing PlayStation, but I know it's possible.

One of the limitations that Ive found so far is the lcd screen's commands are limited, for example, my DVD player holds multiple disks and I would like on the display to be the disk select options, but I have to scroll through the commands until I get to them.

I would like to be able to rename and reorder a few of the commands, but I havent figured out if it's possible yet.

Just my .02.

That's one of the remotes I was looking most closely at (along with the Sony RM-AX 4000, 3100, and the 688? from Harmony I believe)

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it.

One more thing, hows battery life?

Anyone will tell you the Logitech Harmony. I want one really bad.

Also, if you plan to get an xbox360, theres one edition of the Harmony that integrates that.

I have the same remote but not nearly as many components. Make sure your components are fairly close together. It's a little finicky about being pointed in the right direction.

I've had the Home Theater Master MX-500 for well over a year, and it's been great.

I picked up the 659 at a BB in Columbia, MO on Monday. I won't have a chance to set it up until Sunday night (back at Parent's for Spring Break--Party On!!!.....)

Here's the cool thing--I told the guy I found the 659 for 89 bucks on Tiger Direct, and he agreed to match the price after shipping/tax...Dropped a remote priced at 149 down to 99. I was very pleased. For 100 bones, I would recommend that you all do the same if you can.

Hells yeah.....

The invention of German-type aliens, it is a beast composed of a half dozen universal remote controls. The combination of alien technology, german engineering, and so many universal remotes gives it the power to control absolutly anything and everything, even from across the room. The only way to vanquish this creature is to let its batteries run out.
The universal remonster was brought to this earth by means of the Far Gate.
