so now a qb will fall to the Jets. I guess that the saints will take Brickshaw... or Bush if the Texans are stupid enough to let him go...

Or Bush if the Texans are smart enough to realize that they need an D'Brickashaw more.

why in the world would Brees go to a stinky team like new orleans?

now admittedly a large part of new orleans problem was the QB position ... brooks was a wreck.... but Brees is taking a huge risk.

If I were the Aints I'd take tha Brick, even though Super Mario would be a solid pick as well. You really can't go wrong w/ either one. Do the Jets now try and move from 4 to 2 to get Leinart? The saints could still get Super Mario or the Brick if that happened.

Saints are going to have a good offense next year IF (and it is a big if), Brees and Duece McCalister can bounce back from their injuries.

Seriously, WHY did SD let him go? I can't figure this for the life of me. Is this just the resutlt of a power struggle between Schottenheimer and, errr, is it Butler? Or is he the one that died?

Whatever. Anyone know?

San Diego's GM isn't going to overpay for anybody anyway... he's a real hardhead. I could see him and Brees just not finding an agreement. Look at the Gates situation... they suspended him for the first game because he didn't agree to a contract on time. No other team would do that.

Hell he was a Charger, are the Saints that much worse than the Chargers were a couple of years ago

All I can confirm is that Butler is the guy who died a couple of years back. In the end, it seems like Rivers must have impressed in practice. It's a huge risk, but given Brees' injury and Rivers contract it was probably the only option. But to let Brees go and not get anything in return is a huge screw up, IMO.

The Chargers were stupid for getting rid of Brees. They had a good thing going with him, and then decide to go with a different QB. This is a typical Marty move. I predict that this will be San Diego's version of the Gannon/Grbac debacle.

Maybe not worse on the field, but that team is a wreck, their city is a wreck, and they're probably going to be moved. Everything from ownership down is messed up. I guess he's hoping they get moved to LA or somewhere and he's the cornerstone of a renaissance.

The Saints are losers. They have a culture of losing that started long before the hurricane and isn't going to get better in the near future. You get the feeling that the front office could screw up a wet dream.

The Vikings would have made sense. He would have fit in well with Childress' WCO, and they have the money.

Marty wanted Brees back and he would have never given Rivers a legitimate shot to win/keep the job. Keeping Brees would be typical Marty; good thing for Charger fan(s?) AJ Smith has the power. Im glad to see Brees go.

Rivers is an unkown, but his upside is no higher than the level Brees was currently performing at. SD is a playoff-caliber team. They are not rebuilding. What in the hell were they thinking? Why take the huge gamble on Rivers?

My point, exactly, Mr. FringeNC. I would surely hate to see Sandy Eggo with another bust at QB.

Im glad to see Brees go.

Why?

You just let a proven, Pro-Bowl QB walk for nothing, to be replaced with a relative unknown.

Just curious.

Oh, and thanks.

How many snaps has Rivers ever taken in an NFL game, I wonder?

This seems very risky unless Brees' rehab is not expected to go well.

Stats.....

http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/493041

17-30-148 in 4 games

1TD, 1 INT. 67.1 rating.

Looks like he made the tackle on the pick he threw.

I suppose someone might have already said it but the Manning/Brees/Rivers-San Diego/New Orleans connection is interesting to me in this. You know that New Orleans would have loved to have had Eli when he came out since Archie played for the Saints, but Eli didn't want to play for San Diego, they got Rivers instead which ultimately resulted in NO getting Brees.

ala pittsburg.. They are hoping their team is good enough to win while leashing the QB... Denver and Pittsburg do it, well denver still does it, Ben learned how to play QB quicker then the fake...

He's determined to have a bad quarterback on his team even if he has to churn through good quarterbacks to do it.

Exactly....They had to let one of them go. They are playing Rivers too much $$$ to just sit on the bench. Its the GM's choice.

Gee, it's too bad one of our division rivals will be breaking in a new unproven QB next year. Yeah, that's really too bad. Darn....

Well, hopefully for him the new coach isn't an idiot. Their last moron of a coach never figured out how to use Deuce and the running game to set anything up. Hasslet was just a freaking idiot.
