Redskins | Close to trading Ramsey?
Wed, 15 Mar 2006 11:14:04 -0800

David Elfin, of the Washington Times, reports the Washington Redskins and the New York Jets were believed to be in talks to complete the trade of QB Patrick Ramsey to the Jets for a 2006 draft pick late Tuesday, March 14.

John Clayton said last night on SC that the Jets were offering a 7th round pick for Ramsey. Washington is holding out for a better deal.

Would Ramsey be worth a Sixth Rounder?

Yes. I think he would be a hell of a backup. The kid has a great arm and he is pretty bright. Changing offenses every 2 years has to tough. When Green retires this guy should be ready to take the reins.

Unless I'm missing your sarcasm, it would be pretty stupid to pin our hopes on an unproven player who's never been to the Chiefs mini camp, let alone played in the NFL. We do need to sign a backup who has had NFL starts.

Might. And if he doeshe's available to the field of QB seekers. But giving up a 5th or maybe even 6th will snag him now.

His confidence is already shattered...Thanks Dr Freud. Do I dare raise the point that the NFL has a history of rescued careers? One needs to look no further than our own starting QB.

Trent Green? He was a first round pick? He suffered through miserable years? I don't think so. If I recall, Green sat on the bench until one year, in Washington, he prospered. He then went to St. Louis, got hurt, lost his job due to a guy winning the MVP at that very position, but it had nothing to do with performance. In fact, the year before Green came to KC he started several games in St. Louis due to Warner being injured and he posted godly numbers (16 TD's, 5 INT's). Thus, in reality, the only time Green ever struggled in his career was when he came to KC year #1.

So uh, yeah.

We are only saying let's give them a late draft choice. I'm sure the salary will be according to such a scale.

Or we don't we focus on positions of need? Trent Green has only started what, 80 straight games? I think we're ok.

I doubt we will be "focusing on a position of need" much with a 6th or 7th round choice.

Well, I'd be much happier if we invested a 6th in Ramsey and see if he'd be a solution rather than risk a 3rd on Croyle. I'd rather get a productive player next year with that pick.
