PETERSON RESPONDS TO TONY RICHARDSON SIGNING WITH VIKINGS
Mar 21, 2006, 1:02:31 PM

I am personally disappointed that we were not able to work out a new contract for Tony Richardson. Obviously, his contributions both on and off the field in his ten years here have been outstanding. We sincerely thank Tony for all his efforts and accomplishments while in Kansas City.

We wish him the very best in his new career as a member of the Minnesota Vikings. I made it clear to Tony, as I have on numerous occasions, that when he is finished with his playing career I would like him to be a part of the Kansas City Chiefs organization. That offer and promise still holds and we look forward to seeing Tony in the future.

- Carl Peterson, president, Kansas City Chiefs

Are you joking?

He said the same thing about Nick. I can already see a blitz, ending Trent's season, being missed by TRich's cheap replacement.

I'm assuming Priest will be around this year to handle blocking responsibilities.

ESPN.com reports Priest Holmes took a paycut from $3.75 million to $710,000, a move that could signal his impending retirement.
He won't play for that salary. That type of deal is usually for a player who expects to be cut after June 1st. In Holmes' case, the team may just carry him on the physically-unable-to-perform list and pay him the salary as a send-off to a great career.

Dear "Real" Kansas City Fans,

I'm am personally responsible for decline of our running game with the letting go of Tony Richardson. Minnesota offered him a contract of about 2.5 million a year and I countered that with a one year veteran minimum contract with no guarantees. There was just nothing I could do. I wish him well in the fact that the Minnesota Vikings are in a much better position to go to a Super Bowl than we are, and Tony Richarson deserves that. Personally I would like to thank all that Richardson did for this organization and community. I showed the upmost graditude in giving him a joke of a contract. Did I mention that I signed Quentin Griffin? Anyways, I just wanted to let the "real fans" (you know, the ones that buy the tickets to the games) of Kansas City know that I was a Tony Richardson fan.

This is sad. Has there ever been another Chiefs player in the Peterson regime that was such a class person as T-Rich, with perennial Pro Bowl skills like he had? Really can't express my disappointment at this news. I am usually a proponent of letting high-priced vets go when they get too expensive and have little upside left, but I really don't think Priest Holmes would've been half the RB had T-Rich not been his personal escort to the endzone. Guy was everything a football player should be.

Man this pisses me off more than not signing anyone. My dad called me and told me about this while I was at work and I had never been so pissed off about sports before. I wanted to rip CP's head off right there on the spot.

I dare CP to come in to my restuarant and try to get taco food.

The Chiefs are cash strapped and not able to afford what it would cost to retain a player that has been loyal to the organization and community for the past 10 years. What else do you need to know?

I'm don't know if we're that tight against the cap. Washington was said to be cap strapped. They released Arrington, signed Archuleta, Andre Carter, Lloyd, and Randle-El. CP's cheap, lazy, and complacent. http://proxy.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2349505

Once that article came up on the Vikes website I knew he was gone. TRich isn't a talker and he's not much of a bull$#itter.

Peterson has always had his favorites, and TRich was definitely one of them.

I can't see him letting Richardson go if he doesn't have a plan for that money...

to me this is lamars fault as much as queen carls. the buck stops with lamar,he tells queen carl what kind of bonuses he`ll pay. if he isnt willing to spend the money why should jackson county vote to spend their hard earned cash.

to me this is lamars fault as much as queen carls. Unfortunately, that's probably accurate. If Dan Snyder owned the Chiefs, CP might actually move his behind in FA.

It's all "bid-ness." This is the time of year for all the nuanced moves of football teams that either define their front office greatness for fielding competitive or winning squads, or show that they really don't have what it takes organizationally to be a top flight club. Not renewing a marginal player, not reupping a probowl career. This is the time of year for the gambler... This is where NFL Executives of the Year are made. All we can do is wait around until September to try to figure out what really happened to our teams.

This "sour grapes" quote from Carl in the above article pretty much sums up his management skills...

I think Tony had his mind made up before he went to Minnesota, so we really didnt even get into any negotiations, Peterson said. Im disappointed about that, and I told him I was disappointed because, frankly, he did not call me back before he left for Minnesota.

Boo hoo, Carl. You're an asshat.
