Now wait a second, recxjake told me that had all of these billions of dollars in cash, so how can that report start off, "Cash-strapped General Motors Corp."?

Is Saturn on a mission to have all the ugliest cars on the road in one lineup?

That Redline looks like a Miata.

Whew...

I was worried that another day would pass without our GM brainwashing session.

I look forward to stuff like this. And root canals too.

You have clearly been brainwashed by Consumer Reports (and all the other auto review media), which are secretly funded by the Japanese.

I saw the Sky Redline at a car show the other day, and it's a very nice looking car. I'm not sure of the price, but if it's reasonable I can see it being quite popular.

Saturn's now been around for 15 years now and hasn't yet turned a single profit. The only reason it hasn't already been killed off by GM is that they would lose more by shutting the plant down (along with laying off all the workers and taking a loss on all the equipment) than by letting the company limp along year after year.

Who knows? This new line might help them to break even for once. But I hardly think it will be "saving GM" any time soon.

Those are some fugly cars.

For GM, those cars have some decent styling. They are about 5 years behind everyone else in this respect, but that's better than how they have typically been with respect to styling.

If you're going to hire a therapist, Austrian is the way to go. They have really high-quality therapists there, not the shoddy therapists that we produce here in the U.S. who have breakdowns on a regular basis.

What about the Japanese models? They can be quite stoic I am told

I've always preferred the race-inspired Italian models.

and no GM is not cash strapped, they just sold 51% of GMAC for 14 billion and another part of GMAC for 9 billion
Ummm, I think the reason that they sold them is that they are cash strapped and they are losing money.

GM's CEO was on Lehrer last night and basically said they were losing billions (3-5) every year. Their stock is evaluated at junk level. How is a frickin' car line going to save GM?

yea they are losing money, but they have 20 + billion in the bank before the GMAC dealsIf they are losing money, maybe they should cut the dead weight. Defaulting on pensions may be the only way to go.

Dave,

I am curious about this. What exactly is so funny about an American car dealer filing Bankruptcy? It's not MCI or ENRON, they haven't ruined peoples lives. I'm serious, I don't mean to antagonize, I'm genuinely curious.

Speaking of dead weight, how about starting with the employees (the slobs, I know there are plenty of awesome people there, but there are more worthless, drunkards in the factories protected by the unions)

Saw a Saturn Sky at the office yesterday. We were all talking about how it looked really cool and we had no idea Saturn made anything like that.

Then, I *jokingly* said... "It probably has a 2.4L four cylinder in it or something."

Later that day a guy who didn't hear me say that looked up the specs for the car cause he was curious... and, whaddya know.

at this point, the only thing GM can hope for is to go back in their catalog, and produce retro cars, instead of continuing to attempt to produce an American car that looks Japanese.

I wonder if the new one's will blow up on impact like the old one's.

My wife got rear-ended in her Camry by a Saturn and we had to replace her bumper and get a little bit of work done to the trunk. The Saturn was a pile of plastic and was completely destroyed.

No they can hire designers to out do the Japs and offer features the Japs haven't come up with. Make a true cool luxury car for $60k that rules. Beat Lexus at their own game.

I could see that the front end would crumple more then the rear end on many cars, since it is the front end that they really design for the crumple tests.

I used to agree with this..... but the GM execs arent the sharpest tools in the shed either.....

if the UAW was smart they would take cuts.... if not, they won't have a job, or have a pension

I said the same thing in 1978 to the Union boys in STL that were layed off from N.STL Corvette plant... Hanging by the apt pool all day drinking.

Take a cut, find another skill or your job will be gone, they can move the plant...

Speaking of not the sharpest tools in the shed....

Better have room under hood for 3.0L 6 cyl.

Look at the Mazda Miata, when it came out was all the rage as the
replacement for the British Triumphs

that might be what they are trying to copy.
