I didn't think they would move up until the day of the draft. If it's true, why #3? Mario Williams?

Cochise

Gotta be Leinert.

If this is true they moved ahead of all the likely places for Leinert to land. One pick ahead of the Jets. Titans moving down. Only the Saints who just brought in Brees, and the Texans who will select Bush will be ahead of them.

Broncos | Two draft picks acquired from 49ers
Wed, 19 Apr 2006 09:39:07 -0700

The Denver Broncos have announced the team has acquired a second-round pick (No. 37 overall) and a third-round pick (No. 68) in the 2006 NFL Draft from the San Francisco 49ers. In exchange for the picks, Denver sends San Francisco one of their two first round picks, No. 22 overall.

No way they are getting to #3 w/out the 15th and that 22nd pick.

I hope it is Leinert. Trading ahead of the Jets suggest it might be Williams. Hopefully the Saints take him, just in case. Of course, the Donks could always take Ferguson, which would suck too...

Great news. I'd just sat down at work and had the radio on ESPN radio...'bout fell out of my chair. This deal would ensure they are not going to move into the top ten!

AirForceChief

I'm convinced I heard it wrong or it was read wrong on air, because the trade partner was San Francisco. Third round not third pick...

Thanks for the clarification.

Could they trade a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to move up? That would still give them a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I'm not sure how high they could go but it is a possibility.

Broncos deal 22nd overall pick to 49ersSportsTicker

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The San Francisco 49ers now have two first-round picks in this month's NFL draft.

The Niners acquired the 22nd overall selection in the draft from the Denver Broncos on Wednesday for picks in the second round and third round.

The Broncos will receive the 37th and 68th overall picks in the deal.

The Niners own the sixth overall pick in the draft as well as No. 22 in the first round.

The New York Jets are the only other team with two first-round picks in the April 29 draft.

The Broncos now own seven picks in the first four rounds. They have the 15th overall selection after moving up from 29th in a deal with Atlanta.

Denver had acquired the 22nd overall pick from Washington in a trade last April.

rebuilding?

Ammo to move up I mean. Obviously not looking at 1 of the 3 QBs, and I doubt they'll get Bush, but perhaps Mario, DaBrick, or want to move over Green Bay for Hawk. Just wondering is all...

Of course, a team with that many needs, 2 1st round prospects could speed up that rebuilding, get a little more fan support than a higher number of lesser/longterm projects.

This is a solid move on the 49ers part. Moving up 15 spots and only surrendering a 3rd to get 2 first rounders?

22 = 780
37 + 68 = 530 + 250 = 780

I think you're right. Isn't there more than the value of a 3rd round pick between the 15 spots Denver moved down?

It would seem like moving from the bottom to the middle of the first would require getting a second at least. Denver might have left some money on the table here.

I'll say this....
You can't say the Rat and Co aren't Trying.
7 picks in the first 4 rounds is a good way to get a team alot younger in a hurry, and have a shot at some good talent.

In no way do I think they're done....I think this is still stockpiling picks to make some first day moves.

They really aren't. The room is there if they want it, Shanahan simply chose not to restructure some of the big deals like he has in the past. They've got $19.5M in base salaries tied up 5 guys that could be restructured to create plenty of room if they wanted.

I think the tight against the cap claim they've been making was an excuse because they were unwilling to say that they think they're close and don't need to spend a ton of money on new guys this offseason.

I see how Denver is making these moves, and I have to wonder what are we doing? We are sitting on 8 or 9 million in cap space IRCC. And yet we arent making any waves in FA. The only guys we have added are ones that you use to fill roster spots, no one of substantial importance has been mentioned, and on top of that we let some good players go. I really wish I knew what was going on CP and HE's minds.

Looks like the Broncos want Lendale White and know the first round is too high but right around SF's pick is about right in the second round.

Also the 49ers need players bad, 2 first rounders should help things.

Well, hopefully we're waiting to see which DE or S falls to us in the draft so that we can cut Eric Hicks or Greg Wesley and absorb the cap hit.

I wouldn't move up at all. With the number of holes they have and as deep as the first 2 rounds are they can afford to sit and take the BAA sure that someone falls.

I don't think the team that plays 3-4 is going to take the pass rushing end in Williams. I do however think this is a chance for them to take the best player at their first pick then turn around and grab someone like Wimbley with the other one.
