STAR WARS TO BE RELEASED IN 3-D

2006-04-25 10:20:49 -

Director GEORGE LUCAS will re-release the original STAR WARS in 3-D to coincide with the film's 30th anniversary next year (07).

The decision to release a 3-D version of the film in cinemas was based on the enormously successful "special edition" re-issues of the film a few years ago.

The re-release of the 1977 classic will be re-titled STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE. Earlier reports have suggested Lucas would also be tinkering with the sequels and putting them out a year apart from one another.

Several other blockbusters are also being considered for the 3-D format, including JAMES CAMERON's TITANIC and PETER JACKSON's THE LORD OF THE RINGS. (SS/HR/ES)

If the release it using the grey glasses, I will go. If they plan to use that red-green crap, forget it.

I have also heard they somehow have managed to create a 3D effect that you don't need glasses to see.

Anyone else hear that one?

3-D?

How shameful.

Anyone who follows in the footsteps of Jaws 3 should be kicked in the nuts.

R.C.When you said you were going to do Star Wars in 3D, do you mean in the old-fashioned 3D?

G.L.Yeah, with glasses and everything.

OK, that will suck.

I've seen Star Wars in 0D.

In 1977, my two brothers, their girlfriends, I and some girl went to the drive-in movie in someone's family station wagon in order to not watch Star Wars.

Each couple had a certain amount of time in the front seat, middle seat, and The Back. By the time one of us decided to wipe some steam off the windows, the movie was over, almost everyone else had gone, and six inches of snow had fallen.

When asked, we described the movie as such: Frustrating at first, got better as the huge globe-shaped thing was revealed, several foiled attempts to get into the chute, then a direct hit and a big bang and here we are.

Is it any worse than when Spielberg and Lucas wanted to remake the Indiana Jones trilogy, but digitally replace all the guns with walkie-talkies? ;)

Lucas is becoming Ted Turner. Give either of them a chance and they would colorize the opening and closing sequences to "The Wizard of Oz".

.

That's a load of crap. Just because they did it in ET? In Indiana Jones the guns were actually FIRED.

I'd get as much money from this as well cause you know people will buy it. It's obvious he doens't have any other profitable ideas anyway.

George is almost 70. Why would he bother creating a new franchise? He spent 40 years building the Star Wars franchise.

True, I thought he said was supposed to work on small films again like THX1138 and American Graffetti??

Honestly, like someone mentined earlier, he is nearly 70 years old. I just dont think his heart is in it anymore. He would rather take the easy route and keep milking his "cash cow" time and time again rather than come up with something new and innovative. I guess i cant really blame him too much.

I forgot that he is nearly 70. That may explain his actions. I had so much respect for him in the past and I just don't want to see him sell out for the $.

You know.... I'm not sure what the guy is worth.... but I'm pretty sure he isn't in the financial crunch that he HAS to release the movies again to keep from going broke....

Maybe he's doing it because he loves the Star Wars franchise?
