like Derrick Brooks in Tampa Bay

they are about the same size

Pollard - 6'1", 224lbs
Brooks - 6'0", 234lbs

surely pollard can put on 10lbs pretty easy ... he would be able to improve the coverage from our linebackers fairly quickly.

he's was a physical run stuffer type strong safety already.

just a thought

Maxey to Free safety? ... he's a tweener already anyway, isn't he.

just some thoughts

I'm pretty sure we drafted him as a safety. Sean Taylor plays at 6'2" 232, John Lynch plays at 6'2" 220... I'm sure Pollard can do it.

Would be interesting though if Edwards actually did such a thing. Maybe replace Bell with someone that realizes they are on the football field

That would make sense.

But it would probably take him a couple years to transition.

I don't see him at FS, though

so then sammy Knight is gone?

DJ,Mitchell,Pollard looks like a pretty good set up cover 2 type linebackers.

Kendrell Bell goes to pass rush specialist

yes, except for he seemed to be in a system that kept their strong safety around the line of scrimmage quite a bit.

might not be that big of transition ... the angles would all be the same as he had in college.

I think DJ, Mitchell, and Fox works just as well. I know Pollard doesn't line up as the typical type of FS we've had, but John Lynch plays the position and does alright. Just because Pollard is not a burner doesn't mean he can't do it. I just think Herm is going to be very smart with our safeties. I think he'll play to their strengths, whatever that may be. Pollard might just work under Knight for a while, I don't know.

First of all, I doubt that Gunther has any plans of moving Bell away from the LB spot, except for third down, but I do like your idea. If Bell could get back to rushing the passer like he did his rookie year that would be sweet, but I'm afraid he isn't as spry as he once was.

I'd expect DJ to take on more of the Brooks type role.

Alot of the reports said he could be a cover 2 WSLB, but I don't think the team intends to use him that way.

I think Sammy Knight is probably done after this year...age + salary = cut.

I really doubt it. At the very least I would say that is not possible this year- he doesn't weigh enough. And I guess I see a lot of validity in htismaqe's prognostication regarding S. Knight. Age and salary (and to a degree his play) will make Knight a goner next year.
