<A name=309092>Chiefs | Peterson could speak to Law's agents

Elizabeth Merrill, of the Kansas City Star (http://www.kffl.com/link/142), reports Kansas City Chiefs (http://www.kffl.com/team/21/nfl) general manager Carl Peterson has said he will probably be speaking with agents for free agent CB Ty Law (http://www.kffl.com/player/1146/nfl) (Jets) as soon as Monday, May 8.

---------------

How could this be? John Clayton said he'd be signed by Friday. :shake:

Carl's conversation with Ty Law:

Carl: "Hey Ty, would you play for us this year? We'll pay you $52 and give a food coupon to Gates"

Ty: "Fu*k off Carl"

Carl: "Hey, nice talking to you Ty. See you at the Pro Bowl!"

■ NO LAW SO FAR: Cornerback Ty Law has yet to schedule a visit to Kansas City, and nothing is imminent, president/general manager Carl Peterson said. Last weekend, Peterson indicated he probably would be speaking with agents for Law as soon as Monday. As of Monday night, Edwards said he hadnít spoken with Law in nearly a week.

As I said yesterday, me thinks Postons told Clayton Ty would be in KC to get a signed contract to spark intrest from other teams. Clayton reported it on the radio all day and then bailed out during Sports Center time.

New Clayton stuff today in ESPN home page ........

ē What's next for Ty Law?
The top free agent is cornerback Law, who wants a $10 million signing bonus and a $7 million salary. Since he's coming off a Pro Bowl season in which he had 10 interceptions, he's in a position to get it. The Chiefs remain the most likely team. The Seahawks were interested but drafted Kelly Jennings in the first round. The Patriots didn't draft a cornerback, and they still have $17 million of cap room. Could the Patriots bring Law back? They could, but that's being presumptuous. The Chiefs might be the more viable option.

I'm telling you, it's already worked out. Just like with Herm. Carl (the evil genious) and Law already agreed to a contract months ago. Yeah. And all this Titan talk is just a deception, a smoke screen I tell ya!

Law will officially sign with the Chiefs on Monday and Carl will hold a big press conference. You just watch. He'll have it catered by Gates, and he's even gonna invite Whitlock. And the first time Whitlock even tries to take credit, Peterson is gonna say, "Whitlock, STFU!

Then Rhonda Moss will ask, "Why all the secrecy?" To which Peterson will reply, "STFU !"

Yeah, that's what's gonna happen...

What is the point of getting your hopes up, Carl isn't interested in taking part in free agency this offseason. The Chiefs are just going to sit on that $9 million in cap room and ride it into a typical Peterson 7-9/8-8 season.

Big Duddy,
I've rewritten your sentence for you. In the way that you wrote it, it was only comprehendible by 3 year olds. Now, we adults can understand what you meant. Next time that you want to be jackass and insult someone, don't do it yourself. It makes you look like a simpleton. Just let me know and I'll write it for you. Insults are better understood when they are written in proper English. I'm just wanting to help a fellow Planeteer. You're welcome.

Oh, by the way, this should help you out. Sorry for the big words.

I'm just kidding man. I wish the Suns had him in there though. It would give the Lakers fans something to boo about and quit giving Suns players something to bitch about. It was a stupid move though on his part. He was bitching about how he was being man handeled. They showed the replay on TNT. One he flopped and the other he was never touched. His face didn't have one mark on it. He made it sound like he had just been through a bout with Ali or something.

Good analogy...

I will keep my optimism, but I won't be suprised either. Call me crazy, but if you were Ty Law, would you rather have a contract with a guaranteed 7, or one where you'd make 9 if you did the same thing you did last year and 5 if you do nothing at all?

There's been little or no action on Law for a while. Now that the Chiefs are interested, he has visits scheduled everywhere. That's his tactic. He's trying to drive up the price. I guess there's no law (pun intended) against it. It just sucks for us. I'm growing weary of this saga. I just want him to sign with us or sign with someone and get it over with.

I got an idea. Don't know if you can do this, but correct me if wrong.

Give him 5-6 mil in base salary.

As for the bonus, make it like an incentive laden type of deal:

-Where lets say if Ty Law picks off an "x" amount of passes, he get an "x" amount of "$$$"

-If Ty Law improves our pass defense by an "x" amount of slots in comparison to last year, he gets an "x" amount of "$$$".

-If Ty Law scores an "x" amount of TD's, he gets an "x" amount of "$$$".

-If Ty Law breaks up an "x" amount of passes, he gets an "x" amount of "$$$".

*That's the most logical contract I can think of when it comes to Ty Law.

Base Salary is not guaranteed, so Law would never take that deal...as for incentives, it really depends on the numbers as to what would be considered LTBE's and therefore hit the cap.

It's pretty likely that a contract would have a number of escalators and incentives that would pay him more in the short term along with a two tiered signing bonus with a roster bonus.

First year of a new contract typically has a minimum base salary and the real money comes in the bonuses--typcially signing bonuses.

There's absolutely no way any team is going to give Law a 8 figure SB AND a 7M base salary. If they did that and it was a 5 year contract, the cap hit would be 9M the first year (7M base + 2M SB allocation -- 10M divided by 5 years)

I agree, he is not going to get what he wants. and this team won't dish out that kinda money. But I do think we can make him a decent offer, better than most teams out there. In which, he may have to compromise a little bit?

Sorry for not being clear, the base salary is guaranteed. I threw it in there because we know Ty Law is going to want $$ upfront. But, we're only
interested in let's say a short term deal 2 years.
