View Full Version : To tan or not to tan?

I caved in. I'm a wuss. I couldn't handle the peer pressure. I was tired of everyone being darker than me. I hate laying out. I finally got 5 tans for $5 at a local tanning salon that my friend has gone to for 3 years. I never thought I would. I laid in there for 7 minutes today. As white as I am, they thought 10 minutes might burn me, let alone 20.

I don't want to look fake though. I figured these 5 visits will help me get started on a decent tan before the weather gets warm enough to swim.

My sis and I, when we were in our mid-to-late teens did nothing buy lay out all day by the pool. We loved it. Of course, my sister usually invited her hot friends to join us.

I find it funny that women in most of the world are obsessed with becoming lighter-skinned, while women in the U.S. want to be darker.

I myself prefer light skin on white women. For fantasies about darker skinned temptresses, there are plenty of minorities to choose from.

Bleh- light skin is one thing, but PALE skin is highly unattractive. A nice tan goes a long way to looking more attractive- too bronze and you look like a piece of meat left on the grill too long which can be disgusting on the wrong person.

Now that I think about it, stickers could be a lot of fun. You could use stickers shaped like letters to print a message on your body kind of like a temporary tattoo.

Or for that matter, you could use a stenciled sticker to give yourself a seasonal tattoo without doing anything permanent.

I like this idea.

Usually things like "HOT" or "EAT ME"...

If your that pale then congrats you have the same type of skin as Nicole Kidman who has never been accused of being unattractive. Wear clothes that will contrast well against your skin. Blues, Greens, Reds will all look good. I should know as I come from a long line of Irish/German whitey's. Bottom line you can look hot without damaging your skin. The wife's friends "all JUST HAVE to be taned", and 3 years later they all look like worn out leather.
The Mrs. has a sun allergy which she has to take light sessions for each year.
That combined with LOTS of sun screen has her looking 25 not 36 ;)
And you'd be surprised just how far "tan in a can" has come.
The better half uses a "Copertone" product, no streaking, no blotching, and it comes out pretty even if applied VERY THIN in succesive coast (she generally only needs 2-3 for a nice golden look.

You could come work on the roof for me a for a few weeks. That does a kickass job of getting your back half tan, while the front of you remains white. It's like tanning from Maaco.

But on a serious note, self tanning lotion has come a long way. They now make regular lotion that justs adds a hint of color, and it won't turn you orange or stain the palms of your hands. If nothing else, you might consider using it in conjunction with tanning beds.

A "tan" is still skin damage. Doesn't have to be a burn. Being a redhead, I always thought somehow I could trick my skin into tanning...but alas, just burn after burn. In my late 20s I realized that all that UV exposure is not going to bode well for me in my 40s and 50s. I'm glad I have made the choice to go sans tanning bed. When I was about 26, I remember watching a late night tv talk show and this supermodel was saying you would have to be crazy to sit in a tanning bed or go outside without sunscreen, and that all t he models use self-tanner. That made an impression on me.

Also, about that time, a good friend of mine begged me to stop tanning in the tanning beds. He showed me a picture of someone he worked with, who was a redhead like myself, who hadn't avoided the UV, and now she was about 40 but looked seriously about 55. That was shocking.

Now as far as fake tans...hell, I've tried everyone of them. I'm like an expert. I have found one that works well for me, and it doesn't leave me orange or streaky at all...of course, I have become very good at applying it. I like a teensy bit of color, just so I don't blind Nasium.

Luv, good luck! I hope you get the results you are looking for!

I, myself relish in the fact that I am pale and unique compared to the tan bunnies that are getting their day in the sun now having men fawn over them for their dark flawless skin, for when I am in my fifties I will have men fawning over me for my flawless pale skin.

I can acquire a tan however I have to provide tan lines for anyone to notice I have a tan. I donít care for the adverse effects the sun has on the skin, therefore I do not go outside with the intention of getting a tan.
