Aside from the Chiefs...

If you could have only one of these (championship caliber) sports teams in KC which sport would you choose?

Would you trade the current Royals for a Championship caliber NHL team? What about trading them for a championship caliber NBA team?

Hockey could be wiped from the planet and I wouldn't care. The only NHL team I know is the Mighty Ducks and that's just because of the movies. I'd rather have the Royals back to the WS than an NBA team, but right now an NBA team coming to KC and winning a championship seems more likely than that.

When you said aside from the Chiefs that made it easy. It was fun being a Royals fan when they were a quality team, now not so much. Going to a Royals game was always a great experience.

Nope, despite the absolutely nightmarish season they are having, I remain a dedicated fan of the Royals. I prefer to see them competitive again.

NBA B-Ball. Small market teams can win it all. My old answer used to be baseball but the league and owners have ruined it.

Yeah, TNF. Definitely.

If it has to be a "real" sport, though, I'd pick Sumo Wrestling. That's the second-coolest sport after football. Maybe Australian Rules Football would be close behind.

What if they moved to Sacramento?

I'd have to make that decision then. I didn't grow up with the Kings, so my loyalties didn't follow them. I did, however, grow up with the Royals. Despite that, I think I'd lose that loyalty over time if they ever moved.

In days gone by before I came to hate MLB that would have been my choice, now it would be NBA. I really don't care if the Royals ever win again unless MLB fixes its house.

I find it interesting that guys like Stenibrenner cry about "free markets" and scream "socialism!" whenever baseball tries to enforce revenue sharing between big city franchises and small markets.

First of all, baseball (ie, the Yankees) isn't a free market enterprise. They are actually co-dependant upon other teams. They aren't pure competitors with the other teams in baseball. Without 30 other teams, the Yankees wouldn't have anyone to play.

Next, the Yankees and Mets won't allow a 3rd team like the Royals to relocate into the NYC area (ie, Brooklyn). That too is another fix for baseball. Moving a 3rd team into NYC, and 2nd team into Boston, a 3rd team into Chicago, etc. This would spilt the local revenues into 2-3 slices.

He wants the "socialism" regulations that keep give him the ability to burn $1,000 bill to keep warm in the winter, but doesn't want the "socialism" regulations that would keep the league as a whole viable.

I really like Lacraosse. Any sport that seems to combine elements of football and basketball deserves a chance in my mind.
