As the summer flick season gets going, I thought I'd start a thread on that most beautiful, and fleeting, staple of movie bliss: good popcorn.

Anybody who finds some that doesn't taste like old burnt shoe leather, please please please share with the rest of the class.

I actually really like the Boy Scouts microwave butter popcorn. It is the ONLY microwave popcorn that actually tastes like corn, and not cardboard with grease.

As far a movie theatre popcorn goes, they seem to usually start making the new batches around the 3 or 4 pm shows (before that you get yesterday's leftovers). I hate going to earlier shows and getting the old cardboard stuff.

I usually go to the late matinees, and always get old corn.

I'm about to hit an 11 am showing, I'm curious to see what I get this time.

There's this place up town that sells great popcorn, and as an added side attraction they show a movie for a minimal charge. The popcorn and other refreshments are at a much increased, additional charge.

I just caught an 11 am showing of x3 at the amc at 119th and Strang Line, and the popcorn was...(gasp) fresh.

I don't like popcorn. At movies I always get Nachos with lots of peppers and a big Coke. Maybe a pickle.

I get nachos about half the time.

Never drink soda, though. Only water or those frozen slushie things (or both).

And X3 was fine, I thought. I was entertained. I'm going to see DaVinci Code tomorrow I think. Morning flicks on the weekend are only $4.

I also think they should bring back intermission in long movies so I can go pee.

I can't remember the last movie I saw that was long enough to need that. One of the Lord of the Rings films probably, but I don't think I had a problem with it.

I went to one once that had one. I didn't know it did. The movie stopped, the lights came up a little, and I was like WTF is going on?

I go in this morning, the theater is almost empty. And this is a big theater. So I get my favorite seat, one row from the back on the lower group of seats, dead center.

And of course, even though the theater is almost empty, rows in front of me, a whole tiered section behind me, these two teenage assclowns have to come sit two seats away from me in my row, and make cracks through the previews. Thankfully they shut up during the movie (mostly). Good thing for them that they did. Sucks to get taken out of a movie in a body bag.

I usually don't buy food at the theater. I don't like to pay $7 for a bag of grease plus $5 for a drink. And if I did, I'd probably go for the nachos.

I think after today, I won't be getting anything but a bottle of water. Which is $4 itself I think. But I don't really have a way to sneak one in, since I'm wearing t-shirt and shorts. And I can't go 2 hours without water.

I will occasionally purchase pop corn, but i normally just swing by a convenient store on the way and pick up some candy and stuff for the kids. Then just buy a large coke in the theater. I hate spending more on munchies than I did on tickets.

In truth, I actually hate going to the theaters in general. Maybe it's just me, but people just seem to be getting ruder. The last time I went this old hag just cut in front of me getting butter and then was in the way and I had to wait on her stupid ass to get my coke.

always go with a woman with a big purse.

She can bring the snacks, you can sneak in your flask.

I always buy popcorn at the movie theater, mostly because I feel guilty because a friend of mine is a manager at the theater and he always lets us in for free.

wear cargo shorts. I will bring a 2 liter of pop in. I don't really go to the movies anymore though. It is too much hassel. Can't repeat scenes that you want to rewatch. Some crying babies and you get thrown out of just start wacking off halfway through the movies. I don't have these problems when i am watching movies at home

I go to at least one movie a week. Many times I go just for the popcorn. 119th and Strang Line is a good theatre for popcorn, as is the TownCentre theatres. Plaza is hit and miss, and EastGlen is rarely great.
AMCs are good, because they have pretzels. So that can make up for bad popcorn.

Are you joking? There's less people. Fewer people = fewer annoyances.

You also get a better seat.

I can get fresh popcorn, the theatres are busy here, but it framents into shards when you chew it, I hate that type of popcorn. I don't know what causes that but I just know good microwave popcorn does not do that.

If I was filthy rich, I'd buy out a theater for me and my friends for the first showing of movies we wanted to see. That would be ****ing awesome.

I typically go around that time. The tickets are cheaper and you don't have to wade through all the high school and junior high kids who are trying their best to impress all their friends with "funny" quips and dressing like Marylin Manson.

LOL is there such a thing?

Other than fresh cooked at home popcorn (too much work) with butter. I find microwave to be the best. Air cooked has the same problem as theatre popcorn, and Jiffy pop is just awful tasting.

Why?Tickets are 4 bucks (rather than 6.50 for matinees or 8.50 for regular) and the theaters are empty.

I don't see the downside.
