Jason McDaniel, of The Monitor, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Priest Holmes (neck) expects to return to the team for the 2006 season. Holmes said, "Unless I hear otherwise, and the docs say, 'You know what, we're canceling your card, you can't go back and play,' I have every intention to come back and play."

This is what he's said all along. His "card" IS effectively cancelled. He's not even allowed to practice with the team. It will be news when he's actually cleared to play and then he says he's planning to return.

I have no evidence for it, but I suspect Holmes is done.

We won't know for some time. Didn't the Chiefs say that they were planning on putting him on the PUP list to start the year? So we won't know until late October, early November for sure.

I'm curious about what exactly the doctors are waiting for, in terms of giving Priest the green light to continuing playing. Are they waiting for some sort of test result? Waiting for him to stop displaying specific symptoms?

It would sure be nice to see him come back. He would be the ultimate third-down back.
