View Full Version : Well, I guess I can't complain about Time Warner not having enough HD channels now...

They added a new one 1442. Oh wait, that's Gary Lezak 24/7, maybe I can still complain.

:cuss::cuss:

FYI.........if you do not live in the KC area, you probably have no idea what I am talking about.

Monday Morning after the last episode of the Sopranos I called Comcast told them I’m downgrading from “Digital Gold” to “Limited Basic Cable” package. The bill went from $87.25 a month to $8.90 for the cable bill.

Besides The Sopranos all I ever watched was National Geographic Channel, History Channel, Discover Channel and Military Channel.

Hooked back up the analog cable grabber and still have HBO. Fook them until they can find a way where I’m not paying for MTV2, Cartoon Channel, Black Entertainment Channel, Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, Lifetime, Hallmark Channel, CMT, Animal Planet and so on and so forth.

I’ll walk down the street to watch the NFL on ESPN if it’s a game worth watching.

I have been debating going down to just the most basic package.

I don't really watch the news anymore, and there's barely ever anything on ESPN worth watching. Those two are all I have cable for anyways.

The only thing I would miss is all the Royals games, but a lot of the time I turn the TV off and listen to the radio broadcast while I'm doing stuff around the house anyways.

You get the local ABC, NBC, FOX and CBS with with lowest package. Unless they're on a local sports channel I don't think you would have a problem.

It's neither fast, nor reliable in Olathe. As a matter of fact every time it rains, service went down. Now, before you say it sounds like a wiring problem at my place, I know several people, all in different areas of Olathe, who experienced the same. On top of that the city of Olathe and Communistcast are in collusion; no other cable company may sell services within the area. That is some serious BS! It's one of the reasons I left Olathe in my dust :D

I will say that Comcast has been better recently, there was a few times last year where they lost their DNS servers and that really made surfing impossible. I have heard the collusion thing as well, though I'm not sure about it because I thought half of Olathe was TW. I keep hoping that Everest will move into Olathe, but it just hasn't happened yet.

Hasn't happened because Communistcast has exclusive rights to Olathe. :grr:

A surveyor recently came thru my yard.... told me he was verifying cable lines (buried); said Everest was coming. :D That's great news! Even if I don't switch from TW, the competition will force them to improve service & drive down pricing.

People here have been hinting that Comcast may be taking over TW in KC, so you could be drawn back here.

I have a Sony 42" LCD HD TV hooked up to Comcast Digital Cable with a Pacer HD Box here in Maryland and I very happy with the service, just wish it was a little cheaper. I've added HBO, Cinemax and Showtime and my total monthly bill including taxes is $96. The feature that is outstanding is on the on-screen guide. It puts the show your watching in the upper right corner and brings up a channel lineup guide that you can scrool through every channel at your own pace, read a write-up about every show or movie and allows you to see up to seven days in the future. You can set up to eight reminders that will alert you one minute for a show comes on and you just hit enter and your taken to that channel. Below are the channels I'm now receiving.

Channels 2 - 75 are analog, so the quality on my HD TV is about a 7 or 8 on those channels, however they recently went digital on some of the lower channels without moving them to a higher number. We lost the Food Channel and Home & Garden for a couple of days last month and when I called they said they were upgrading them to digital. A couple of days later we had a much clearer channel 57 and 58. All the Channels from 80 and above are digital or HD.

Last year they had a special on Comcast High Speed internet for $19.99 for six months, they don't tell you that there is a $3 monthly fee for the modem. Anyway, the service and speed was great, but after six months it went to $43 + the $3, so I switched to People PC for $10.95 a month and it's a good dialup service. In fact the first six months it was only $9.95 and one month was free.

Yup. Hell, its almost 90 for extended basic and a cable modem, then they want you to pay $40 a month on top of that for phone service.

Ahhhh, the differences an Everest can make...

If you get all that for $100 that is great. Like I posted, Comcast internet alone is $43 + $3 for the modem for a total of $46, that's why I got rid of it. Before I got the HD TV, Comcast was $53, that's for channels 2 - 75, going digital bumped it to $63, then they charge $5 for the HD box, so just having HD digital cable will cost about $68, the HBO, Showtime and Cinemax takes it up to $96.

Do you get all of the approximate 40 channels of HBO, Showtime and Cinemax or just the main channel?

Just the HBOs (about 14 of them), Action channels (2), Westerns (3?), Encore (3?), Romance (1), Family (way too many to count), and IFC. I opted out of Showtime & Cinemax... those would be extra ($15 each).

I think we have approx 20 HD channels: local channels, 2 HBOs, ESPN, 2 PBS, and a bunch of HD-specific channels & PPV.

Our HD doesn't cost extra. Since the entire system is digital, we also have a couple dozen OnDemand channels. Those are pretty damn good :)

I heard that Comcast was trying out $100 for all 3 (Digital, Phone, Internet) out East somewhere. Though I think with our smaller market here in Olathe that we are treated a bit like a red headed step child and are last to see anything. So maybe in 2 years they will bring it to Olathe.

They're offering that here in Baltimore, all three for $100. It's just like every other offer, it's usually only six months to a year and then they sock it to ya. I had the internet this time last year for $19.99 plus $3 for the modem, they probably figure one or two people out of ten will keep the three or at least part of it. When my six months were up I unplugged the modem and hand carried it back to Comcast, I wasn't about to pay $43 for the internet.

Comcast is based out of Philly, which is only about 120 miles from here and they bought the naming rights to the new coliseum where the Terps play basketball, so their name and seeing their trucks is pretty common around here.

Baltimore is also treated like a stepchild when compared to Washington, since were only 40 miles apart and they have a long historic team and 2-1/ million people to our barely 1 million people in the entire metro area, so on the local Comcast Sports Net the Redskins get much bigger coverage even though it's suppose to be even. Now, with the Nationals they're doing the same thing with the Nats over the Orioles. In fact, they're begun calling Comcast Sports Net the Redskins network. Last year they showed all four Redskins preseason games in hi-def while the Ravens only had one game in hi-def.

Oh, that just figures. $100 a month for 6 months is complete BS. Here I thought they were planning on doing something intelligent and good for the customer for a change, haha.

I guess they will just be making it easier for the telephone companies to come in and steal away their customers when they get TV up and running.

Finally found something on Everest and why it isn't in Olathe...

Everest remains bogged down in Olathe.

Don Seifert, policy development manager for Olathe, said the city granted Everest a cable franchise more than a year ago with the expectation that the company soon would begin building its network. But Everest officials have said they won't proceed without also having a telecommunications franchise.

Seems we are getting screwed because they wouldn't offer them the ability to offer phone service. Just have to wonder if this is still the case since this seems to be an older article.

NFL Network is included free with digital cable, it's on channel 180. So if you have Comcast standard cable without the set-top box for $53 a month, you won't get it because you can only receive up to channel 75. If you have Comcast digital cable with the box for $63 a month, then it's included.

One place you can watch all the games is the ESPNZone at the Inner Harbor. It's right downtown about a mile east of the two stadiums. If your coming in from BWI Airport and exit I-95 onto I-395 downtown Baltimore, the football and baseball stadiums will be to your left, stay to the right and you'll see an old power plant with smoke stacks. The ESPNZone and Hardrock Cafe are in that building just past the big Aquarium. If you can't get someone to take you, there are plenty of cabs in the city and suburbs and there is an electric train that runs through the city similiar to a bus, it runs from Hunt Valley 20 miles north to BWI Airport 10 miles south with stops all along the way.

They were set to move there, from what I had read, until their parent company, Aquila, ran out of cash and decided that they should stop the cable company from expanding.

I believe Everest has been bought out from someone who is looking at expanding again, so there is still hope for us all.
