MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State and UCLA have agreed to a two-year, home-and-home football series, head football coach Ron Prince announced Tuesday.
The contract will have the Wildcats visit the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Sept. 19, 2009. The Bruins will then return the game at Bill Snyder Family Stadium on Sept. 4, 2010.
"We are excited about the opportunity face a program with the storied tradition of UCLA," Prince said. "Our goal in scheduling will continue to focus on balancing the rigors of Big 12 Conference play with allowing our program to compete on a national stage. I believe the addition of this series to our future schedules helps us accomplish that goal."
Kansas State's trip to southern California in 2009 will mark the first-ever meeting between the two programs in the sport of football. K-State has made several trips to the Golden State throughout its history and played in Los Angeles as recently as 2001, when the Wildcats knocked off Southern California, 10-6. Overall, K-State is 4-2-1 in games played in the state of California.
Kansas State has also played many of UCLA's Pacific-10 Conference brethren. All time, the Wildcats are 7-14-1 vs. teams hailing from the Pac-10. However, K-State currently owns a five-game winning streak against the league, including a victory over California in the 2003 Black Coaches' Association (BCA) Classic that was played at Arrowhead Stadium.
K-State also defeated Arizona State in the 2002 Holiday Bowl, swept USC during its home-and-home series with the Trojans in 2001 and 2002, and knocked off Washington in the 1999 Holiday Bowl.
UCLA is the second program from a Bowl Championship Series (BCS) conference to sign a home-and-home series contract with Kansas State in the last four months. K-State inked a two-year, home-and-home deal with Louisville of the Big East Conference in January. That series opens this fall with the Cardinals visiting Bill Snyder Family Stadium on Sept. 23.
