Here's a head start on the thread of the most grueling test of golf in the world. Winged Foot is a beast, it could be like watching lambs thrown amongst a pack of coyotes and pent-up Kansas wheat farmers.

One more thought--If I ever build a golf course, I think I should name it Clubbed Foot.

All I ask is that either Tiger or Mickelson is in the hunt on Sunday. Winged Foot looks like another grueling course. It won't be very watchable if those two aren't in contention.

I think I may hang myself if Furyk wins another open. He may be the most boring man alive. I'm sorry, but any man who has a topless Brittney Skye running at him to hand him a rose and just stands there like an offended puritan definitely deserves a place in the douchebag hall of fame.

I don't think Woods or Mickelson will win, this course does not favor long bombers who stray the ball even a little. I'd go with the field over those two. I'd love to see Woods get the win on fathers day though, what a story that would be. I wouldn't mind Furyk won too, he's a bald guy who has an ugly swing...like me. So I respect

Furyk may be the world's ugliest man. He's got his one major...given the quality of his game I'd say that's a fairly accurate depiction of his ability.

Willie, I will say this...every course always favors long bombers if they have a good short game, which both of the aforementioned do. Given the up and downs Mickelson has made today, it would be hard to bet against him, as he had a subpar ball-striking round at best.

Furyk will win this year's open the same day that Tiger joins the Ku Klux Klan. He shot his wad today. He lacks the strength to gouge the ball out of the rough. He hit the shit out of the ball today and shot the same round that Mickelson did hitting 60 % of his fairways and less than half of his greens.

I just want to say I hate people with "US Open Games", hence my displeasure for Furyk (well that and his total lack of personality). With that being said, watching people with US Open Games is like watching "Clay Court Specialists". I enjoy people who hit the ball a long way and all over the golf course, like me, and who play the game with a dash of flair and copious profanity (like myself as well).

Yeah Tiger looks out of it. I feel bad for the guy, and he has 10 majors. He's obviously not the same so far. Maybe it's the lay off, maybe it's because he's still not over the loss of his father, or maybe both. All I know is the hardest thing to do after not playing for a while is the short game.

NBC's sports coverage has been in the shitter. They need ratings. Tiger's sentimental story probably = ratings.

The thing that bothers me the most about the Earl Woods thing is that if his kid wouldn't have had all the talent that he did it would have been little different than Marv and Todd Marinovich (not quite as psycho though). To lionize the guy because his son hit the genetic lottery just doesn't make very much sense to me.

He pissed away a bunch of shots today, playing 5,6,7 even when he should have played them -2. Missing that short birdie at 16 and then bogeying the last. The only consolation is that he's only 4 off. I just started playing 3 years ago.

Haven't been able to control a driver so I use a Orlimar vt830 3w to tee off. I also have a an older very thin faced Orlimar 3 wood to hit low boring drives and off the deck.

My irons are made by a local Overland Park company named Innovex. They are nice irons and have helped me a great deal. I carry Wilson 3 and 4 hybrids inplace of the long irons.

And a new Oddysey 2 ball putter.

I have a ways to go before I purchase any high dollar stuff.

So company wise, I'm all over the place.

Smart play by Phil, playing a 3/4 iron into the hole leaving himself a very realistic shot at birdie. Stricker stripes his tee shot on 2, and now the world's ugliest man stands over a kneeknocker for par, which curls in the right edge.

Monty may be the first person in open history to break the shaft of his driver and commit Seppuku on the 10th hole.

WilliamTheIrish

Phil hit that testy par?

'Hamas' Jenkins
06-17-2006, 02:12 PM
Yes, but he's scrambling again on 8. He either needs to spend all night at the range, or go to a straighter faced driver and change his swing path for the last day, cause this fade shit isn't working today.

'Hamas' Jenkins
06-17-2006, 02:13 PM
Miller barbs David Feherty....ouch.

'Hamas' Jenkins
06-17-2006, 02:17 PM
Mickelson with a brutal lip out on 8. He needs to start striking the ball better or he has no chance in hell.

There's the Mickelson lip-out special. It's amazing how often he does that.

That was an 8 footer, not a 4 footer though. Slight difference.

'Hamas' Jenkins
06-17-2006, 02:23 PM
Phil needs to bag that f*cking driver. He can't hit it today.

'Hamas' Jenkins
06-17-2006, 02:29 PM
I really think that Phil might want to think about going to the Tour Van and telling the Callaway guys to build him an 11-12 degree driver for tomorrow so that he can get rid of some of that sidespin.

'Hamas' Jenkins
06-17-2006, 02:38 PM
Mickelson with another sloppy bogey. Stricker is starting to get loose, which is opening up the tournament for the field. +2 will be in good shape by the end of the day.

'Hamas' Jenkins
06-17-2006, 02:40 PM
Bones isn't exactly earning his paycheck today. Two bad misclubs on 7 and 10 for Mickelson.

Phil with another ridonculous par after a 64 degree flopper.

'Hamas' Jenkins

He's headed for a Jason Gore finish tomorrow.

'Hamas' Jenkins
06-17-2006, 02:52 PM
And the red numbers are officially dead. Ferrie, Stricker, E lead it. Mickelson gets a little unlucky on his approach into 11, but actually hits a GIR.

'Hamas' Jenkins
06-17-2006, 02:58 PM
Stricker runs a chip way by on 9...Phil needs to birdie 12, it's the only birdie hole he has left.

Stricker blows the par by. Let the collapse begin. Geoff Ogilvy is making a small charge.

It is supposed to be in the low 90's there, so hopefully the USGA is smart enough to syringe the hell out of those greens so they don't go Shinnecock on everybody. So Hamas,

What sticks do you use? Handicap? How often do you get to play? How long have you played the game?

A little personal golf history, if you please.

Personal Golf History:

My dad used to be a Golf Course Superintendent back in the day, so I was always exposed to it, but not to a great deal since my parents divorced when I was like 3. I started playing seriously when I was 14, but once I started college, I became too busy for it and didn't play until my senior year. I got back in the swing after I graduated college, and have had a lot of time to play this summer, since I'm a grad student and have the summer off.

I'm a really high ball hitter, kind of like Mickelson, to the point where wind can reek havoc with my game. I have a penchant for playing amongst the trees, making pars from the sticks and doubles when I'm hitting a flip sand wedge into the green. The short game is my biggest weakness, but I'm a streaky putter.

You'll notice a theme in my equipment:

I have a Ping G2 Driver, 10 degrees with an Aldila NV 65 shaft, regular flex (I generally swing stiff flex shafts, but I feel the R in my driver gives me a little bit better tempo)

I carry a Sonartec 4 wood, 16 degrees of loft with a stock stiff shaft

Ping G2 5 wood 17 degrees of loft TFC 100 Regular flex shaft (I hit the sonartec a long way, so the loft difference is irrelevant, I hit the Sonartec like a 3 wood and the Ping like a 5). The ping is great out of the rough, and I've actually developed a little half punch shot 150-175 yard shot with it that I can use when I need to get out of the trees.

My Irons are Ping I3's which were introduced in 1999; O-size. They are white color code (3 degrees upright), and 1/4" longer than standard. I recently reshafted them with Rifle Flighted Shafts, 6.0 (stiff flex). The 3 iron is a Ping G2 HL hybrid 3 iron which is easier to get up in the air than my original i3.

Wedges are Titleist, 54 degree Vokey Black Nickel, and a 60 Degree Vokey Chrome. (Sometimes I alternate a Callaway Forged vintage 58 or a Cleveland 485 Copper 56 degree wedge that is older than sin).

Right now I probably play off of a 12 handicap, but I would imagine I should be a 6 by the end of the summer. My biggest problem is that I have a tendency to run off several pars and then make a huge number, or I'll just have a boneheaded breakdown.

Case in point: I made 3 sixes yesterday when I was hitting wedges as an approach shot in. Completely inexcusable, but I have a tendency for mental lapses, what can I say

My swing speed is about 105 MPH, so I hit the ball a fairly long way, but my misses tend to be bad misses; I always tend to miss into the place where you can't--shortsiding myself, for example--hence the big numbers

Miles
06-18-2006, 12:13 PM
Just curious why you carry two 4-woods. Is there really that much yardage gap between the two?

I hit the Sonartec 20 yards farther than the Ping, but the G2 is much, much easier to hit out of dicey lies. The sonartec is a good safe driver with a lot of pop in the face, and the 5 wood is great for approaches into par 5s.
