Who else is excited about the Johnny Cash CD that's coming out on July 4? The songs I've heard from it are "God's Gonna Cut You Down" and "Like the 309". "God's Gonna Cut You Down" reminded me of the title track to The Man Comes Around. It was nice.

Here's a link to the two songs I talked about in my original post, plus another song called "Help Me":

Cash sang "Daddy Sang Bass" with Flatt...

I know he sang "I Still Miss Someone" with Scruggs.... there might be more...

He sang several songs with Bill Monroe on The Johhny Cash Show, but none of them were ever aired. Some dude is planning to release them along with a bunch of others, but no idea when it would happen.

Cash covered several Flatt and Scruggs songs... and vice versa... but I'm not sure if all 3 sang together...

I read an interview with Rick Rubin, and one of the things is said is that American V is the dark before the light. That made sense after I listened to the "Like the 309" sample. Mr. Cash recorded that song four days before he died. He sounds like he's knocking on death's door.

Rubin also said that he has enough material to do American VI.

Here's a link where you can listen to the whole album. There's buzz that this will be one of the best albums of the year. I don't see why not. It's a dark and honest CD. Cash confronts his mortality. Of course, he talks a lot about June.
