The Dow and NASDAQ are incredibly high today. What gives?

Didn't you read Jensons prediction? Everybody is happy that the world didn't end.

Edit: it also appears that both the markets are slightly down.

Positive news on the war front has sharply affected the markets. The added speculation that Iran may actually wish to normalize relations a bit has eased the absurd oil market (gawd I wish we would pour $ into developing renewable, home-grown fuel sources!!). Unemployment is exceptionally low. Housing market continues to exceed expectations. Manufacturing is up. The deficit reduction is exceeding expected pace. And it is rumored that the Fed will NOT raise rates! :D

Give it a few days... it'll dip again. Like everything else, the markets are cyclical.

Mickelson's collapse made people think it was 1999 again, when gas prices were low and the stock market didn't suck hind tit

Am I the only one that likes when the market is down? I mean in theory you can get things at a better price. Plus I am about 30-35 years away from retiring so I have no plans to cash out anytime soon anyways. Just wondering.
