Redskins sign three picks
June 20, 2006

The Washington Redskins had the fewest first-day draft picks of any NFL team, but no team is signing its rookies faster. Less than a week after sixth-round Reed Doughty signed a three-year contract with $84,920 up front, the Redskins signed three of their other five selections yesterday.

Defensive tackle Anthony Montgomery, Washington's fifth-rounder, received three-year deal that includes a bonus of about $125,000. Defensive tackle Kedric Golston, taken 23 picks after Doughty in the sixth round, signed a three-year contract with about $70,000 in signing bonuses. Linebacker Kevin Simon, a seventh-rounder, signed a three-year deal with about $30,000 up front.

Guard Kili Lefotu, Washington's other seventh-rounder, also is close to a deal. That would leave the remainder of Washington's $2.24 million rookie pool for second-rounder Rocky McIntosh. It would be up to McIntosh's agent, Eric Metz, and Redskins director of football administration Eric Schaffer to structure a long-term contract amendable to both sides.
