My wife and I are bringing the kids (12 and 15) down to Worlds and Oceans of fun next week. We're wanting to go to a decent but affordable restaurant down in KC. Not some chain place like Olive Garden, but something that is just good KC eatin'. We'll be staying close to Worlds of Fun but we will be hitting the zoo on Wednesday as well.

Any ideas would help. Maybe some BBQ or really good Mexican. Thanks for your ideas!

Why would you go to the zoo in KC when we have the 2nd best one in the country here?

Cuz I've seen ours a million times, figured I'd see what theirs looks like....

Smokehouse by the Independence Center.

If you are staying near WoF, you won't be far from Smokestack by Walmart at 35+152.

Stephenson's Apple Orchard. Great food.

The last time you ate there must have been years ago. It has become pretty bad in recent years.

Yes, it's been quite a few years since I've been there and unfortunate it's gone down hill. I liked it's uniquness.

It still has decent food but I refuse to sit through horrible service at less than desirable facilities. I won't eat there again if they start giving food away.

Jack Stack, Gates, Bryant's, Oklahoma Joe's, Stroud's.

There's a Jack Stack (or Fiorella's) close by Union Station. Great food there.

If you're staying up by Worlds of Fun, Chappell's in NKC is fun, and has great sports memorabelia:

For BBQ, Jack Stack by Union Station: http://www.jackstackbbq.com/

For Chicken, Stroud's has a very nice place near Worlds of Fun:

For Mexican, go to Southwest Boulevard (south of Downtown KC) and do Manny's, Ponak's or Margarita's.

I vote for Stroud's. In addition to fried chicken, they offer a variety of other good homestyle entrees. I love their catfish, their chicken-fried steak, their pork chops, and their jumbo shrimp too. Excellent mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans as well. Good call, gblowfish.

Good recommendations, IMO.

But I will warn you his culinary opnions seem much more lucid and rational that his political opinions....;)
