Richard Thomas, of the Texarkana Gazette, reports New England Patriots CB Eric Warfield will be seeking a starting spot in training camp. The Kansas City Chiefs cut Warfield, after eight seasons with the team, March 3. "Kansas City wanted to go in a different direction, and I have nothing bad to say about their organization, coaches or players," Warfield said Friday, June 23. Warfield, who is currently listed as the No. 2 left cornerback for New England, doesn't plan on being a backup. "I asked them what my role would be, and they said 'Whatever you make it.' That's why I think it I can go out there and show them what I'm capable of doing, then I can earn a starting spot," Warfield said. CB Ellis Hobbs and Warfield (6-0, 190) will likely compete for the starting left cornerback spot. Warfield has played only corner in his pro career, but says the Patriots have informed him he could be moved to safety if the team needs to move him. Warfield said he will continue offseason workouts until July 7, then get a couple of weeks off before he reports to training camp on July 28.

I don't think he'll last there if he pulls that stuff.

I'll bet Tom Brady is setting a good example for him and encouraging him.

Actually safety might be the best place for him. He has some coverage skills but not enough IMO to be a top CB. He can hit when he wants to so I can see him as a FS.

I doubt it. He barely has any free time between saving babies from burning buildings and curing terminal diseases.

He still has to tackle no matter where he plays.

You're thinking of Rich Scanlon.

I dunno. I might take FS Warfield and SS Pollard over FS Wesley and SS Knight. Maybe we cut the wrong slacker. Hindsight's 20/20 I guess.

If not give him a Sam Adams :BLVD: for thinking outside the box, being a team player ready to move to safety.

I agree.

As for cutting the wrong slacker, we had to cut Warfield at the ridiculous money he was making. It's only a shame that we didn't resign him at the same discount price New England got him for.

As mentioned, i'd take him as our free safety and cut Wesley.

Someone should show them a defensive tape of last years giants game.

Compared to the Patriots' secondary for most of last year, that'd be an upgrade.

Warfield is a sure upgrade out in Boston.

I just recently watched last year's Pats @ KC game, and Warfield had a pretty solid game. I'm not surprised they picked him up, after seeing that game 1st hand.

WOW, wasn't safety what he played in college? Its his original position, he would have been a darn good free safety. Yet he was a decent 2nd corner, probably a better nickelback.
