Why do so many places with names that start with the letter A also end with the letter A?
Asia
Africa
America
Albania
Australia
Austria
Alabama
Alaska
Arizona
Arabia
Arkansas (if they could spell right)
Angola
Andorra
Armenia
Andalusia
Antigua
What's up with this? These are places that got named in different languages in different periods of history by different civilizations. Why is it so popular to pick names that end in "A" if they happen to start with "A"?
Apalaciacola is another one Mr. Rain Man. I think it's probably the Latin influence on the name origins. There seem to be few B to B names, though.
Bub, Maryland is the only one that comes to mind.

There has been a great loss of respect with Diego Maradona all over the damn TV lately. Very understandable.

Don't forget the great Canadian province of Alberta
Isn't there a type of lava called aa?Yes. The Hawaiian alphabet only contains 13 letters, so they were bound to have one or two words like that.
I imagine if we had the word "Aa" in English, it would like something like "Ahough" with a bunch of silent letters and crap. The Hawaiian language spells its words with as little letters as possible... very efficient.

It has a stoplight. About 2,000 people. It used to be (I don't know if it still is) the place where all of the actual MLB golden gloves were made, along with the baseballs (at the Rawlings plant).
ALso, it is the home of the National Foxtrotter association (if you don't know, a Foxtrotter is a gaited horse kin to the Tennessee Walker).

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the "a" at the end isn't a characteristic of only places that start with "a" also. I think the ending of "a" is just common no matter what the beginning letter is.
Just as a reference, 21 states end with the letter "a"

A stands for Ass. The Texas Rangers just got bent over in San Francisco. I bet the ump smiled as he put it in.

Everytime I read something absolutely hilarious someone comes bounding along and raises the bar. This is the line of the day easily.
