I'm HeadlessChief and I have an XBox and a 360...

For 360 I just have PGR 3 (for now).

For the regular XBox I have Halo 2, Ghost Recon 2, NCAA, NHL, and Nascar 06.

Everyone boo him for having it four days before most of the rest of us, or at least those of us who are too lazy to go to a store and pick it up.

It caters to the absolute lowest common denominator, and is easily the biggest ripoff of a franchise since Power Moves for the SNES copied Street Fighter 2.

It takes nearly everything GTA does and does it better. However, at least in the demo, it lacks any sort of atmosphere that helps make GTA successful. The Havok based physics somewhat makes up for it, but it really falls short at trying to replicate GTA's humor.

I might pick it up at the end of August if previews continue to be favorable.

Out of curiosity...I just tried Gamefly, but it took seven (7) days to get my first set of games....is this normal?

Gamefly shipments generally take 2-4 business days to get to me, but longer waits aren't unheard of. It's the only real weak point of Gamefly, to me, but the features outweigh the occasionally crappy shipping.

Unfortunately for me, my 360 stopped working this morning.

Yesterday when I would put in the Oblivion disc it would occasionally give me an error - a white screen that said in several languages, "You must put this disc in an Xbox 360 console for it to work." Color me confused.

Anyway, I'm currently waiting for M$ tech support to open so I can give them a piece of my mind...I haven't even had the console 30 days and it's already pitching me a fit. :cuss: :banghead:
An update on this...thank goodness for WalMart's generous return policy. I packed up all of my goodies in the original box and wrapping, took my receipt back to my local WalMart and got a new one no muss no fuss. I think I may be investing in M$'s "2 year extended warranty" for $60. I would really have hated to seen me if this had happened at 91 days. :cuss:

Damn it feels good to pistol whip homeless people.

The ragdoll physics in SR are intensely amusing, and the combat is way better than the auto-lock tedium of GTA.

Hopefully, the full game will live up to the promise, because if it does well, I can see it sort of pushing R* a bit for GTA IV. Not that I don't trust them to work their asses off on it, anyways, but it's still nice to see a GTA-clone that seems to do a lot of things right.

To-do list for anyone with an Xbox 360:

1.) Download the Dead Rising demo.
2.) Buy Dead Rising (it comes out tomorrow).
3.) Beat the ever-loving hell out of countless zombies from here to eternity.
4.) Die being able to say you lived a full life.

Just in case you missed out on the Dead Rising thread, this is THE GAME OF THE SUMMER -- nay, CENTURY.

For reference,

By the way, from MajorNelson.com:

News: 'Texas Hold 'em' update

As I promised in my show this past Sunday, there is an update on ‘Texas Hold’em.’ Brand new information, including a release date (August 23rd) price (free…for the first 48 hours) and more has just been posted on Xbox.com.

Edit: Just to be clear, anyone who downloads this game during the free period, will get the full un-locked version of the game to play. There will be no time out on the version (in other words...you can play as long as you want..whenever you want) as long as you download it during the first 48-hours. After the free period is over, then it's Arcade business as usual - there will be a demo, and the option to purchase the full game.

Heh, a few friends of mine were playing it. We got to this area where you have to get into a helicoptor to go shoot down Juanalito's helicoptor. The demo had a bug that wouldn't allow us to fire weapons or get in the helicoptor. Ended up giving up.

It's kind of charming, in a "this game is so absurd I must keep playing it" sort of way.

I don't need every game to be strictly tied to reality, but I would like an explanation as to how this dude is able to pull of some of the shit he can.

...how does he freefall hundreds of feet, fail to pull his chute and land on the hood of a moving car without so much as a sliver of health being lost?

...how can he steer the car while standing on top of the hood?

...how can he leap 50+ feet in the air?

And that's just within the first 5 minutes of the demo. I've seen videos where you can jump out of a helicopter and then lariat a jet Batman style and commandeer it.

how is Saints Row, Zooted?

Ultra Peanut
08-30-2006, 01:34 PM
I found the Just Cause demo underwhelming, even after wrapping my head around the outlandishness of the stunts. Vehicle control wasn't very good, to me, and it just didn't seem to offer much outside of, "Ooh, pretty water." It wasn't terrible, just not awe-inspiring.

As for Saints Row, it does an extremely good job of improving on the GTA formula in almost every way. For instance, mayhem is more fun than rampages/kill frenzies, the gunplay is vastly superior, car customization is even better, and the city feels really... internally consistent. Toss in the new stuff, like character customization, insurance fraud, ragdoll physics, and oh God, the RAGDOLL, and it provides plenty of freshness in addition to the familar.

I didn't expect the radio stations to even come close to San Andreas, but they seem to operate in a similarly dynamic way, and there are some funny moments to be found in the commercials and call-ins. There are a TON of songs in myriad genres, to boot, and you can take them with you on your handy dandy in-game mp3 player.

Going back to the game's humor, while GTA is a very funny series, Saints Row does a pretty good job in its own right. It's a little more grounded in reality most of the time, and a tad more subtle and understated (not that it's usually all that subtle, just more subtle than GTA), but still funny.

Saints Row may not have quite as much "character" as GTA, but Rockstar has had a long time to work on things. Saints Row is a really solid first effort, in that regard, and it's definitely not some sort of cheap cash-in. I haven't seen much of the story yet, but what I have seen is very well done (with some reasonably big-name actors doing GTA-caliber voice work). Oh, and that brings to mind the ability to go to movie theaters and replay cutscenes and missions. FINALLY.

Saints Row won't be held up as an example of a revolutionary game, but it is very, very entertaining, and I don't regret the impulse buy at all. I hope it does well and they get a chance to keep building on the foundation they've set up, because it can only mean good things for gamers.

That's not even going into multiplayer, which I haven't tried out yet.

The world's worst-kept "secret," that Assassin's Creed wouldn't be a PS3-exclusive, is apparently very close to being completely exposed. Great news for everyone (except fanboys).

The trailer (http://youtube.com/watch?v=cc-ClutaN_I) is :whackit:-worthy.

That reminds me, I forgot to link how to get a Japanese/British Xbox Live Silver account...which in turn allows you to download region specific demos, like Rainbow 6 Vegas.

First off you should go to the passport site : http://www.passport.com/. Make sure you are not logged in, and click on the "create hotmail account" link. Now, here is the important part, the site will ask you where you are from, select either Japan, the US, or Europe. Remember, this is the country where the demo is available, not where you really live! You will require some information regarding those countries so Microsoft will allow you ro register the e-mail address.

Here is the info we used:

United States
Postal Code: 10012
State: New York, City New York City
Phone Number: 1-866-530-1234

Japan
Postal Code: 150-2345
Province: Tokyo-to
Phone Number: 3201-3331

Germany
Postal Code: 54292
City: Trier
Phone Number: 065112345

You can use any valid address and phone number from the country where the demo is available.

Once you have filled out the info and applied for the Hotmail account, activate it and turn on your Xbox360. Press the guide button and choose "switch profile" (X Button). Now create a new profile, and a new Xbox Live Account, make it a Silver account instead of a Gold (so you dont have to pay). Next you will require the phone number mentioned above to use your passport. You could theoretically take care of all the passport stuff on the Xbox, but it will go much faster on PC with a keyboard.

As for Rainbow 6, it's hot shit, and is up there with FNR3 & Lost Planet as far as kick ass Live demos. Unfortunately, it comes out a week after Gears of War, so I'll be waiting a month or so to scoop it up.
