Of course. Mullet in the 80's, Dr Johnny Fever 'feathered' in the 70's...

Slash's guitar work in GnR's "Estranged" is KILLER. Very underrated song.

That's not John on that record. He didn't play with Manson until 1998. I've never heard anything (especially his solo stuff) that would make me he's incredible and his work on the new Rob Zombie record is barely interesting. What material are you referreing to because I'll at least give it listen.

I do dig his wife though, one Aria Giovanni :)

Sammy Hagar - "Heavy Metal" (simple, but very memorable)
BOC - "Don't Fear the Reaper"
AC/DC - "Thunderstruck"
Zeppelin - "Stairway to Heaven" (of course)
Boston - just about everything from the first two albums, plus "Coolin' the Engines"
Styx - "Miss America"
REO - "357 Riverside Avenue" and "Flying Turkey Trot"

okay, not all of those are necessarily about riffs, per se, just about really distinctive guitar parts.

Oh, Jesus. This post is off the cuff, and is in no way comprehensive. It'd take me a good while to figure that out. I'll try to limit this post to one riff per band, off the top of my head.

Kreator - "Coma of Souls"
Opeth - "Serenity Painted Death"
Dark Angel - all 7,382 riffs on the album "Darkness Descends"
Agalloch - "The Hawthorne Passage"
Amon Amarth - "God, His Son, and Holy Whore"
Angra - "Temple of Hate"
Ayreon - "Day 20: Confrontation"
Blind Guardian - "Imaginations From the Other Side"
Children of Bodom - "Hate Me"
ZZ Top - "La Grange"
Enslaved - "Blodhemn"
Falconer - "Royal Galley"
High on Fire - "Blessed Black Wings"
Black sabbath - "Symptom of the Universe"
Judas preist - "Painkiller"
Iron Maiden - "Wrathchild"
Kamelot - "Karma"
Kalmah - "The Groan of Wind"
Kronos - "Opplomak"
Slough Feg - "I Will Kill You/You WIll Die"
Megadeth - "Holy wars... the Punishment due"
Lost Horizon - "Cry of a Restless Soul" !!!!
Metallica - "Blakcened"
Queensryche - Mindcrime album, heh.

I've got to stop. i could go on forever about riff-age.

Oops, I must have had guns on the brain for some reason (probably because I was playing video games earlier).

I like the solo to "Heartbreaker" by Zeppelin
I like the solo in "One" by Metallica
Whever said Estranged was spot on. GnR annoy the crap out of me but that song and November Rain are excellent.
Someone also said the beginning to "Layla," but my favorite is the second half of the song. Its beautiful. Its like someone crying over a lost love, it keeps going and going and although it ends sooner or later, you still feel that sadness.

Elektric by King Crimson sounds like Satan's music jewelry box.
