Okay, so I love Jazz, but being a sheltered individual I am, I don't know really where to look to find different stuff.
I was on the internet and decided to upgrade my John Coltrane collection (I played sax in high school and so I can appreciate how amazing he is through my suckiness). I like Miles Davis also. I absolutely love Dave Brubeck as well.
Given those choices, what would you recommend for me? Although I appreciate the fast sections of Jazz I really like the slower, more emotional (IMO) pieces. Given this, does anyone stick out to you that I might not know about?

Thank you, sir. I downloaded one of his latest pieces (off of Interstellar Space, called Venus), months before he died, and its very expressionistic. Not easy to listen to at all (but its not supposed to be).

B.B. King is a god to me. I was so pissed when I found out he was in Branson and it was already sold out.
I also love Louis Armstrong, so smooth yet so emotional.

interstellar space is a tough listen all around, it's all duets between him and rashied ali...very expressive, some of trane's most beautiful and spiritual music
if you're into that type of late era coltrane, i HIGHLY recommend the 4 cd set, live in japan... it's the prize of my coltrane collection

I have to be in the mood for it. When I want to chill out, its not the right piece. But when I'm thinking a lot about things, it seems to make sense.

If you like Trane you will love Bird. Any of his stuff is great, but if you are looking for emotional pieces you should check out any of his music when he was accompanied by strings. I don't know the name of the album off the top of my head, but when I get home I will let you know.

Kenny G is not cool or jazz. He plays a sax over r&b tracks. Hardly jazz.

The album I was referencing here is Bird with Strings. This is when he was on the Verve label. When he did some stuff for the Dial label he also did some music with an orchestra but it is not as good or plentiful as the music of when he was on the Verve label.

Couple good ones. The 'Bird Soundtrack' with his original horn mixed.
Movie Directed by Clint Eastwood. Award for sound engineering IIRC.
