View Full Version : Do We Have The Guns To Win It All?

We've made alot of FA moves the last two years and have drafted some defensive talent. We have the same offensive players that have lead the league the last several years. We also have a new HC who's defensive minded and he's brought in several new assistants. So how do you all feel as camp begins? Do we have the guns to get it done? It doesn't mean I'm predicting us to do it but I believe we do.

So does mean yes we have the guns or no we don't have the guns? Keep in mind the team with the most talent doesn't always win.

Yeah, I guess I'm just wanting one that can step up when the game is on the line. Right now we have somewhere between zero and one half at each postition.

I think we have the guns to stand with anyone, just don't know if we have the guns to actually win it all. Now, if some of our younger players come around, yes, I think we have the guns.

It hasn't made the trip since 1970; is it still road worthy?

I happen to think we do. We have a good mix of veterans and youth. I think the defense will surprise a lot of peeps. I think we now have a great combination of speed and experience on the defensive side of the ball- Having Surtain combined with the additions of Law and Walls makes our DBfield a whole lot stronger than it was last year. They should give the line another second or two to rush the passer.

If he's fully healed and ready to play some damn football again- I can see Bell becoming a stand-out rushing backer again. I like the addition of Ron Edwards, and I think the guy is highly under-rated. If he can get through the season healthy- I think he will provide a great tackle for those passing downs. Take Sims out on 3rd and longs, and throw Edwards in there with Carlos Hall, Tamba Hali, and/or Jared Allen of course, and I think we're a better pass-rushing team.

If Hali can score half a dozen sacks on one end, it should ultimately make Jared Allen even more dangerous. But, I love the experience now that we have Law with Surtain. No more Tiki Barber runs anymore with this defense. Plus, I think Edwards and Krumrie will bring a new attitude to the defense.

The offense may suffer a little in scoring, but it won't matter. The major concerns I have is our depth on offense: an injury to Green, L.J. or even T.G. could seriously neglect our hope of a winning season. I pray that our offense makes it through the season without any major losses, and if that occurs- I think then we are one of the teams to beat.

I did a Chiefs detox this offseason. I had been at it hard since '98 and I needed to let it go for an offseason. I tried to keep abreast of things but didn't spend sinceless hour after hour surfing the net waiting on something to happen. it did me good and now my batteries are recharged I'm ready to do the Arrowhead Rock. Hope things have been good with you. Is that a new van or the old one before it bit the dust?

cool...I applaud your diligence...it's the new one...almost done. I'll post pics pretty soon.

Stay in touch, I'll be using the van to tailgate this year.

It would take quite a bit of luck and an amazing streak of injury free games but yes there is a slight chance.

Right now, I believe we do. There's really as good a shot at it in KC as there is anywhere, depending on some things going the right way. There are certainly plenty of areas of concern, though.

But I think that gets right to the point. There are no super teams out there. Every team has flaws. It just seems that if the Chiefs can mitigate theirs more effectively than some other contenders do, we're right there.

Come to think of it, if we did have guns- it sure would make playing defense a whole lot easier. :hmmm:

We have a negative 4,242,300% chance to win the Bowl which means we are certain to win it this year. Last time we won the Superbowl Killer Clown was born so if i had to pass away on the same day we won our next superbowl would it be okay with everyone? O wait.... I hope we suck forever!! :p

Run the ball, and cause turnovers, thats my formula.

Why not? Seems like the margin between good and bad gets smaller each year. I'm not sure we had a Super Bowl team really, but last year you could literally change one play here or there and put us in the playoffs. And take the Steelers out. Kinda makes you cringe when you think about it... do all that work all season and it often comes down to one play or two.

My only two real big worries are that something bad will happen with Roaf, and we won't find a pass rush. If those two things turn out well, we're going to be super dangerous. If not, then it'll be a fun season of arguing....haha.

Ditto. I think the WR situation will be OK; even with the current Kennison situation.

Being a D homer, DT is my biggest concern. Krumrie needs to be throwing red meat to those guys and cracking a whip at TC.

the difference bewtween us not being in the playoffs and Pittsburgh winning the Superbowl was us blowing a 20 point lead (or whatever), at home, against Philly....ughh...

anyways, since I'm pretty sure (but not positive) "guns" isn't a euphamism for penis in this thread, my take is that it all depends on our "young guns"...yes, injuries of course...but if LJ/DJ/Allen all play like probowlers and if Mitchell and Parker each raise their level of play, and if Fox gets on the field and lives up to the hype, and Crapho etc...then we will be - finally - a balanced, tough team cruising into the playoffs...

We have a team that's beginning to resemble a Marty team without one key hindrance - MARTY.

I hope Herm is does not prove to be a Marty clone.

For all of Carl's faults, you'd be foolish to suggest he hasn't learned something in his 16 years here. If Herm was a Marty clone, Carl wouldn't have hired him.

Carl knows what Super Bowl fever would do to this town, and to Lamar's bank account.

Cormac

I think we were close to winning it last year. If it wasn't for Roaf's injury, we would have been in the playoffs. No doubt. Our D was much much improved except for the Giants/Cowboys games. I'm not saying we would have won it all had we gotten into the playoffs, but wild card teams can win it (Pitt), and nobody would have wanted to play us, that is for sure.

The biggest change for this year will be our coaching staff. Not Ty Law or Ron Edwards or LJ starting for 16 games etc. I think the philosophy on D will make the difference. What concerns me is the Marty ball approach on offense. I expect to want Herm's head a few times this season. But we'll see.

Can we win the SB this year? Damn right we can. We're among the top 10 teams with chances, IMO.

Will we win it? Probably not.

I'll have a better idea in December...if KC steps on its dick (Giants/Dallas games) like it did last year, probably not.

At this point Im more concerned about the offense than the defense. If Herm goes Marty, they're toast. If the offense continues to play with balance, and the defensive talent steps up, I'd say KC's got as good of a shot as any team.

I think we definitely do, if we can avoid key injuries, and win on Thanksgiving.

I know it's cliche'....but, if we can stay healthy, AND we get a few bounces of the ball.....AND a couple of players who we need to step up, do....

Then, Maybe. ;)

Sure.

We have holes and question-marks, but what team doesn't?

The main factor for any contending team is avoiding the injury bug.
