Update: With Reggie Bush (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/7751/) having been signed, the Saints will likely step up their efforts to trade Bennett, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Teams that are reportedly interested in acquiring Bennett include St. Louis, Houston, Miami and Kansas City.

Go get him Carl!

I'm not sure I'd want to give up more than a 6th round or a conditional pick for him.

We need a back-up, but trading for Bennett has disaster written all over it. Bennett makes MORE money than LJ and Bennett can't stay healthy. Keep the 3rd round pick.

I'd love to have him.

Listening to Mitch, it sounds like it's pretty close to done. Maybe we're sending them Jordan Black or something...

i just hope we don't give up much ... i like bennet ok but it just burns me to give ups something after we just passed on him in free agency.

i'd be irritated if i was a texan fan too .... sign a guy and then trade him.

I think the Saints are looking for depth at DT. Maybe we can send them Jr Siavii.

IF we acquire Bennett I want LJ to be the punch and Bennett to be a rarely used jab.

Hell yeah.Is it that far fetched? Trading a early 2nd round pick for a late 1st round pick? They were less than 10 picks apart.

Probably just wishful thinking on my part, but I can't imagine ever get any more value out of Siavii than that.

Bennett would be good insurance should LJ go down, IMO. Plus with this new offense, it sounds like LJ will need a breather here and there because we'll be playing "bruiser" football. Gulp, I miss Roaf. Please come back Willie.

give them a 3rd round next year and a 5th round the year after and call it done....he will be worth that in the long run

I don't think it's far-fetched, assuming both of them can pass physicals.

2nd!?! Wow, that's rather high and mighty of them...

If I was Nawlins, I'd be keeping him around. If Deuce gets Injured, what's going to happen? Bush may be a backup, but he's not a replacement. Bennett could carry half that team, while Bush could do his thing, whatever it may end up being in the Big Easy.

You're crazy. What has Bennett ever done to warrant a 3rd round pick for him?

He's had ONE 1,000+ season and that was 4 years ago.

Since then, he hasn't sniffed 500 yards in a single season. The last 2 years he's average ypc was below 4.0.

He's never had more than 5 rushing TDs in a single season, and that occurred only once.

He's been injured 3 years in a row.

All that and the fact that we could have signed him as a free agent means I wouldn't give up anything higher than 6th round pick...and preferably I'd give a conditional pick.

You're comfortable with Griffin or Brown touching the ball in games........ :shake:

I like Q Griffin, but I don't think he can carry the load like the Broncos tried to make him do. LJ and Bennett would be a real nice 1-2 punch... as long as Bennett stays healthy. I'm all about RB depth though... you can never ever ever have enough. Especially as much as we've run the ball, and considering we're going to run even more now.

Just the thought of Bennett turning on that blinding speed through a hole created by Will Shields makes me drool...

Pound the f*ck out of 'em with LJ and then let Bennett come in and blow past them.

Why does everyone think Brown is such a P.O.S.? I just don't get that...

Does everyone hate Griffin because he's a shrimp? Or an ex-Donk?

Dee Brown.....the guy who's been on 4 teams in 5 years, the guy who they gave 1 carry to last year against the Broncos when LJ needed a breather and he couldn't get 1 yard.

I think Griffin is to small to play any kind of role without getting obliterated. Basically Dee Brown and Quetin Griffin are 3rd HB's a last resort you shouldn't have 2 of them and they shouldn't be your backup.

This guy is just about as injury prone as Priest was. No more than a 6th rounder for him.

I think it's going to be a little more than 3-5 carries......Larry Johnson started 9 games last year and had as many carries as backs who started 16. They can't work him at that same rate unless well they want him to be dead at the end of the season and have a 3 year career.

Plus Herm is talking about running it 35-40 times a game so the Chiefs need a #2 RB that can come in a have a productive 10-12 carries.

We'd definately have some speed at the WR position if that happened.

Parker, Hall, Stallworth, Thorpe, all probably run high 4.3's or better. Kennison is still pretty fast as well but probably has lost a step, he used to be one of the fastest in the NFL.

Petro was on KK's show today and he said that, although the Chiefs likely have an offer out for Bennett, they're likely looking to the Saints for a WR as well...

If the Chiefs can pull off getting Stallworth then they will be sitting pretty good at WR. I think Stallworth still has the potential to be a very good receiver.

Interesting news. I wonder if this is Herm's or Carl's doing. They seem to be focused on getting offensive depth.
