I always wondered how our language would change once we hit the year 2000.

Prior to that, people often refered to the year by the last 2 numbers.

"I graduated in 'ninty-one'." ... or ... "I started following the Chiefs in 'eighty-eight'."

How do people say things now?

Do you say "oh-six"? Or just "six"? Maybe "oght-six" is making a comeback?

My guess is that people far more often than they did 6 years ago say the full "two thousand six".

And how do you refer to this decade? It used to be the "eighties" and the "nineties". What is our current decade called in your mind? And what about the next one (the teens)? Would you say I'm going to graduate in "eleven", or "two thousand eleven"?

You don't know how many times I have prayed that "aught" would make a comeback.

I commonly hear it referred to as "oh-six". This is amongst my friends, co-workers, and the general population in Lawrence.

Not sure about what to call the decade though...

I guess mine's a special case. I graduated in 2000, so it's pretty much got to be "two-thousand." "Zero" just doesn't sound that appealing.
