Tiger or the field? Who ya got? My gut tells me Tiger will win, but if I was a betting man I have to take the field. Tiger and Phil are teeing up together, should be interesting. The Golf Chanel will follow Tiger, Phil, Ogilvie(sp) starting at 11:00 AM eastern time.

Those are pretty high scores for a PGA championship, especially when it's the longest major in tour history.

For the record, in my previous post I said "high" scores, but probably should have said "low" or "good".

Davis Love III making some noise. -3 through 4. I've always liked Davis. We old men with bad backs need to stick together.

Would be nice to see Davis have a good week. I'm sure Lehman would like to pick him for the Ryder Cup, and with all our rookies, we could sure use his experience if he can get his game together.

BTW, if you didn't see it this early afternoon, ( I saw it live and almost forgot about it), on the first tee after Fats and Ogilvy hit their drives, Woods stepped to the tee and hit a screaming 3w that went right.

It bounced on hill and it was about to go over the gallery when a spectator reaches up and kind of slaps at the ball keeping it from flying further into the rough.

It's hard to estimate where the ball may have landed. As it was, Woods had to pitch out to about 110 yards. Then he hit a gap wedge to within 5 feet and drained the par putt.

It might have cost him a stroke had the ball continued on it path.

The announcers said that the PGA official on the scene did not make the correct decision. The ball should have placed where it could have reasonably been estimated to land had it not been touched by a member of the gallery.

Strange deal.

Thanks for the post William. I have always wondered whent this would become an issue. Even though the tournament is going on about 3 miles from here, I have missed most of the updates so far. Just got back from Brazil today.

Ed, it was a weird play for sure. The guy actually slapped at the ball as it was about to go over his head.

This is going to be interesting. I have seen shots this year, a couple of times, that I was suspicous of this happening. Can't remember which specific ones , but I remember thinking it. Some very fortunate bounces out of the gallery. Very strange bounces.

There's some great action going on today. Lots of birdies so far early. There's now a 7 way tie for the lead, and 7 or 8 more guys just one shot back, with another group of 7 or 8 guys two shots back. Looks like a 15-20 player battle right now. Mickelson has shot forward into a tie for the lead.

It looks like rain moving in again, they should be able to knock the sticks down again tomorrow. Damn those guys are good, they make it look so easy. I have played that course, and it is a tough track.

2 players are -5 thru 9 holes, they are no threat to the contenders (they are @ -3) but the course will be way to easy today, and I can see the course record broken (someone will shoot a 63)... and the winner @ -20 and a whole lot of players (at least 10)@ -15 or more...

Its gonna be a shootout, and I cant wait to watch...

Stewart Cink posting a -4 thru 12 (not in contention -5 for the tourney)

Tim Clark posting a -4 thru 9 today (not in contention - 6 for the tourney)
