Supposedly, the radio guys were saying that Grudz had agreed to a contract extention with the Royals earlier in the day. I haven't found any articles confirming it though. Just basically that they agreed to use the option for 2007, and added an option for 2008.

TV guys mentioned a new contract twice, but didn't give details

In top of 6th, Grudz flied out to right on the 3rd pitch, after taking a strike and fouling off the 2nd pitch.

Royals up 7-0 in bottom of 6th.

Jose Contreras is done for the night. This could be the first time in 10 outings against the Royals that his team will lose.

7-0 going into the bottom of the 7th.

Grudz flied out the left against the lefty. Oh well. Maybe he'll get another plate appearance.

Hochevar made his debut tonight with Burlington against class A South Bend (Arizona). On the radio they said his pitch count was going to be about 35.

2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Notables: he threw 1 wild pitch, but struck out looking Justin Upton, the previous year's #1 pick overall.

Good move keeping Grudz around. He was the one guy of the veterans that came in who I hoped they'd find a way to re-sign.

The one thing we've definitely been doing lately that the Royals never do, and that's hit good pitching. We've totally beat up guys like Santana, Schilling, Contreras lately. The last few years, even 2003, it seemed like if we ran into an elite pitcher we always got shut down.

Gaithright may have a real future in CF. Tonight, he ran down a ball in the gap that should have gone for at least a double. He held the guy to a single, and also hit the ball and draw a walk.

Our young guys are really coming around as players.

Shealy's HR was exciting. It'll be neat of that guy actually does blossom into a power hitter.

Did you see Emil Brown's near-catch of Cintron's grand slam in the 9th? He was centimeters away from snagging that thing.
