First Saturn Aura rolls off Fairfax line
Friday August 18, 11:10 am ET

Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will drive the first Saturn Aura off the assembly line at the Fairfax assembly plant in Kansas City, Kan., on Friday afternoon.
General Motors Corp. officially announced in May that it would produce the Saturn Aura at the Fairfax plant.

The company said the first Saturn coming off the assembly line represents a victory for keeping automotive manufacturing jobs in the community. The company said it is the result of a combined effort between General Motors, the United Auto Workers, the state of Kansas, and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kan.

The Unified Government committed $146 million in revenue bonds and tax abatements to entice GM to add the Saturn line to production at Fairfax.

General Motors invested $203 million to add the Saturn Aura to the Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu MAXX models already produced at the plant. The Saturn production created about 240 jobs.

The Fairfax assembly plant has produced more than 10 million vehicles since its first car, a black Pontiac two-door sedan, rolled off the assembly line on June 3, 1946.

$21k for the base model isnt was jumps into my mind when the word affordable is mentioned.

BTW, the Camary and especially the Passat will stomp a mud hole in the "Aura".

Looks pretty good for a Saturn, but it also looks small.

same size as malibu, G6

the XR is a steal for the price... Saturn has so much good stuff coming out... the Outlook, Sky and now this... and a new small car to replace the ion next year called the astra

It's nice looking for a Saturn, but I'd rather spend a little extra on an Acura TL

Listen you prepubescent fanboy. Do you notice the sentiment in this thread? "...for a Saturn".

It's like "She's got a pretty face" or, "Ah, she's not THAT fat." or "Come on, I was wasted, it wasn't my fault."

"It just a vanilla scheme"

Honestly, I compare this car to the Hyundai Azera.

It's a nice looking vehicle, but there is no way in Hades that I'm going to pay that kind of price for a decked out Hyundai or Saturn. Each company is best served sticking to a niche market of budget-priced vehicles and leaving the entry-level luxury market to the companies that know how to do it right.
