Huh. A jets fan posting a poll as if he were "one of us." Interesting.

In other news, your poll options are crap. He will not ruin our offense, nor will he be our offense's savior. In addition, "same as it ever was" doesn't have anything to do with Marty. Sheesh.

To answer your question, we will probably see a slight decline in our offense (maybe) and a slight improvement in our defense.

In this case I think DaFace is right. 10-6 is the most likely senario in my mind.

Marty has been gone for what, almost 10 years now?

I wonder if we will ever stop hearing about him.

I expect a 10 or so win season and a wild card appearance or a narrow miss. Don't see a ton of improvement over last year but I don't think we will regress much either.

I'm hoping once Herm sees how fun it is to have a high-powered offense, he'll give them some room.

At least they are giving Green more room to audible than he used to. (Pssst, Trent, change the play at the line and go for their throats).

It really is weird how much Jets fans seem to care about "warning us" about Herm. They're kind of like a jilted ex- or something. Herm's moved on, but they can't let the past go and insist on stalking us as if they were doing us a favor when in reality, all they're doing is annoying everyone involved.

Actually, that is serious. I remember some Charger fans coming in from time to time here and other BBs I have been on asking about Marty and that's pretty much what they were told. I don't remember hearing of Chiefs fans going over to their BBs using it as smack.

I hate to burst the Jets fans bubble, but this is what has really taken place.

1. On Sept 10th, 2005 Carl has dinner with Herm prior to the Sept 11th game against the Jets and KC.

2. At the Dinner, Carl told Herm that this would be DV's last year. He then told Herm that if he were interested in coaching a team with real fans who give GREAT fan support and a high powered offense instead a team that has wishy-washy fans and much more rebuilding to do, then he should consider "Making it easy to get out of his contract" in New York.

3. Herm considers what Carl says and throws the game the next day. He proceeds to throw 11 more games. (When Pennington went down, Herm thought "Losing will be much easier now")

4. As the season ends, DV hints at wanting to come back, but Carl has long-range plans that don't include DV.

5. Meanwhile back in New York, the fans are grumbling at Herm, their reporters are attacking Herm and questioning his desire to win (if they only knew which contest he was trying to win). Carl chuckles at the reports.

6. Season ends and DV has no contract so he rides off into the sunset. Carl needs a replacement. Sports sites start speculating that Herm would be a good fit in KC - a DV/Carl buddy - and he's kinda on the bad side of a lot of New York fans and the Jets management.

7. Finally, Carl inquires to the Jets GM. He's stinging from the 12 losses, he's mad at his coach for the 12 losses, he's tired of the fans complaining for 12 loses, so he deals Herm to KC for what he and the New York Jets, and their fans feel is a steal.

It was a great plan Carl!

Most people, myself included, felt Herm could come in here and be better than Vermeil. He hasn't done anything yet to prove that's not the case. Vermeil lost more than his fair share of games just like yesterday's.

Not jumping to rash conclusions doesn't mean someone is in denial, any more than jumping to rash conclusions makes one a prophet.

Well, back in those days they had this thing called "the endzone", Mr. InChiefsHell. It was a place where guys tried to go and if they made it there, they would score six (6) whole points at once - not two field goals, mind you, but 6 whole points all at the same time. Well, sometimes, our team would do that.

Then, there was this thing they used to call "blocking". I know it sounds crazy, but that's where a guy would actually get in front of another guy and either stop his progress or change his direction or even knock him down sometimes. It was a rule that you were allowed to "block". We had some guys that would do that "blocking" thing and that would allow us to do something called "run for positive yards" which is where you take the football and go past the line of scrimmage with it.

I'm not going to predict miami but I definitely think we'll see a more consistent team than we did under the last 2 years of DV.

You predicted that right. Now we equally suck on offense, defense and special teams.

Gosh Mr. Fax, you mean you are supposed to move the ball toward the goal on offense, and not let the other team move towards the goal on defense? And you say that we used to be able to do this? When did the rules change?

We don't suck on defense. We're falling off. Our red zone defense is excellent and the first 1/2 of the season our pts allowed was pretty damned good.

When the offense went into full on suck mode (LJ and the line got injured) the defense wasn't good enough to carry the game. I think we have a good defense, but it's not good enough to make up for this offense.

True to a point - but it has been weak against the run all year. They're average at best.
