Anyone out there ever been to a Fry's Electronics store?

If you have not I will try to let you in on one of the best F****** Electronic Superstores I have EVER been in PERIOD.

I went to the one in Vegas down at the end of "The Strip".

This is the 2nd time I've been there but it just Blows my mind how flipping huge this place is and how much stuff is in there.

Take an average sized Wal-Mart Store (Non-WalMart SuperCenter) and make it into a complete electronics store with the greatest pricing I have seen that matches anything you see online INCLUDING NEWEGG.

Here is my story of purchases out there in the last two weeks.

My wife and I went there with my parents because the WU and I decided to buy a new digital camera (dc) and the selection of digital cameras took up 3 short isles with about 15 to 20 on each short isle. We had every major brand to choose from ranging from $50 to $2000+

We bought one for $350 and were pretty damn happy with it for the pictures it takes and the small size it has compared to the Sony CD-1000 I have now that is a monster. Anyway we bought it a day AFTER we got to Vegas and come up Sunday the 3rd the Ads came out in the Vegas Review Journal and I found the Best Buy ad that had the SAME camera for $50 less. I looked at Fry's ad from the previous Friday and find out that they give 110% of difference price on any advertised price from a competitor for up to 30days.

Well I had some good fortune at the Casinos on Saturday so when I went down there to get my $50 refund the WU tells me on the way out the door to look at the Digital Video Cameras.

After getting my $60 or so credited BACK to our Credit Card for the difference in price I go back to the Digital Video Cameras that have about the same amount of space and the just short of the same amount of cameras as the digital cameras. Well I find the JVC Digital Video camera I have been eyeballing and just so happened to have the BestBuy ad still in hand. Fry's had the same model JVC I wanted and it was retail priced at $799 and the BestBuy ad was $599. The guy that helped me goes into his terminal and finds that it has already been reduced to $569 in store because of BestBuys ad. SOLD right then and there.

Man this place is like a candy store to a kid. Anything you want for just about the butt cheapest price you can find anywhere.

Had to share the story cause I don't get deals like that where I live. Fry's will meet AND beat any advertised price on identical items.

:)

I live less than a mile from a Fry's Electronics. Yes they do have a great selection and prices. Sometimes customer service is lacking but they have the best selection.

Yeah, I've been there. I've spent a lot of money there. I don't think there is one here in KC though.

Do they have any of those in the south? Otherwise I'll stick with newegg. Actually I'll stick with them anyway.

WE have nebraska furniture mart, that should dwarf most fry's stores.. That building is what 200k square feet of sales floor and I heard they are adding on...

I wish they'd open up a Fry's nearby. Not a week goes by that I don't see an incredible deal for something I'm interested in, especially their game software prices.

Its been a really long time since I have been there but I don't remember the Nebraska Furniture Mart electronics store (whatever its called) being nearly as large as frys.

Edit: was thinking of Omaha.

Yeah, there is Fry's out here.

I have shopped there a few times, but I really try to avoid those places like the plague. Waaaay to F'ing busy and all they have is a pack of kids running the store.

If you know what you want, and they do have some great sales, due to the volume they purchase at.....get in get what you want and promptly leave...

What is their cheapest 50 inch Plasma? Can't find anything cheaper than the Vizio 50 inch for 1899.

There's one on 93rd & metcalf. It's called Microcenter and I think they're a sister store or something.

At least I think they are...

Not when I can get 110% of the difference OFF of the total price. Everyone has ADs including Fry's. But Fry's will gaurantee you that any competiors prices for same models will be taken off or given back to you.

Purchase it from Fry's and if Best Buy, CompUSA, or Circuit City have it on sale withing 30 days you can get 110% of the difference BACK. Either way you are gauranteed the lowest price and then some.

I don't have the pleasure of having these kinds of things where I live so it's kinda kewl to take advantage of it when I can.

Yeah, I've been there. Pretty nice. About 1/4 of the size of the Frye's I used to go to in L.A.

I went to an electronics place in Bangkok that dwarfs Frye's. Think of the floorspace of a Costco or Sam's Club and then stack four of them on top of each other. It was unbelievable. Some of the things you buy there, though, you shouldn't try to take back to the states.

What do they have in stock as far as Offensive Lineman? Preferably a left tackle, but it's negotiable.....

Glad your experience was pleasant.

I will never shop at Fryes again. Their sales staff is rude and completely unhelpful, they don't stand behind their cheapazz merchandise and generally make you feel like they're doing you a huge favour when they bother to listen to your complaint.

Bought a DVD/VCR player there. The laser crapped out but I didn't have my receipt. It was clearly their brand but they acted like I was a shoplifter when I brought it in and wanted a replacement. They'll never get another nickle of mine.

Honestly.... I never go shopping for something without doing some sort of research on it before hand. That is just plain smart consumerism IMO. I never trust sales people to know the ins and outs of EVERYTHING they sell so I will take the work out of the sale for them by knowing exactly what I want with what features and how much I want to pay ahead of time. I don't get those looks because I usually know more about what I am buying than the sales person in most cases.

As far as thier "CheapAzz" merchandise it is the SAME stuff you buy at BestBuy, CompUSA, Circuit City etc. Don't believe me just check the model #'s of anything at one of those places and I'm sure you would find identical model #'s at Fry's, NewEgg or any other bulk sales wharehouse.

You had a bad experience and won't go back. I have a few places in my past that I will not return to for same reason. But if you don't have a reciept only Wal-Mart will give you instore credit. There are allot of places that have a "No Reciept No Return" policy. That is why I keep reciepts for EVERYTHING I pay for including my bills. Has paid off in big ways in the past.

You have to look out for your best interest because it's not just Fry's that you have to worry about IMO.

I've ordered from them online and they were fantastic. I was building a computer and the CPU was bad. I waited until the last minute to install it and the warranty had expired. They shipped another right away and a return shipping envelope.

I'd shop them again in a flash. Tiger Direct is the one I'd avoid.

posts like this crack me up...

what if you're the owner of the store and some john doe comes in off the street w/ one of your DVD players and no receipt...john does says, "this is broken, i don't have a receipt"..

what would you do? give him a replacement? give me a break, seems you're being just a bit melodramatic

Agreed on TD. They often have good deals, but they often are only deals because of massive rebates. In my experience you've got about a 30% chance of getting a rebate back from them, so good luck.

My dad and I both bought Corsair 1GB thumb drives marked down to $34.99 and with $20 mail in rebate makes them $14.99. They gave us the rebate forms at time of purchase. And they give an additional reciept to send in with it so you keep your original. We sent the rebates in the same day this would have been the 29th of August and I just recieved an email from Corsair Ltd yesterday 9/11 that my rebate was being processed and should be recieving it soon.

I am happy with my whole experience with Fry's so far.

Yea I should have explained more.

I don't know about TD as I have never bought anything from them but the rebate I was promised from Frye's seems to be for real.

Didn't mean for it to sound that way.

WTF: 30% ???

If you look at one of thier ads 85% of thier merchandise is rebated to get a low price. :shake:

Thanks for the warning.

If you ever buy anything from Tiger Direct with a major rebate, be careful. All it takes is a google search for "Tiger Direct rebate (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B2GGGL_enUS177&q=tiger+direct+rebate)" to give you the idea. Here's a consumer advocacy site (http://www.consumeraffairs.com/computers/tiger_direct.htm) to get you started.

Also, I just found this site, which seems to be a pretty comprehensive review of the major rebate companies, complete with ratings. There's not a whole lot of data, but it could be useful for making decisions:

That is all places..

You get what you pay for, its the manufacture 'cheapazz' product they stand behind it not the stores, that is why they have manufacture warranties... But you lost the reciept so the manufacture would not honor it either unless you registered the product with them...

If you lost the receipt how do they know you bought it yesterday or seven months ago... And usually brands are sold at different places all over the country, unless it said fry's combo unit you are out of luck and then you still need a reciept...

Im sorry but you are at fault for your whole story.. You are pissed because you bought a really cheap crap brand combo unit.. It went out and you didn't have reciept because you lost it.. You expect them to give you a new one even though you cannot back up your story...

Alternative to help you next time..

If you paid with credit card/check you could have shown a statement that you bought it there and then it would have to be within 30 days in the majority of the stores... Or buy and extended plan thru the company they usually go for 2-3 years sometimes they are worth it, sometimes they are not...
