A new version of iTunes was released yesterday and I dig it. I have used iTunes for a while because it does the ebst job (IMO) of organizing my songs in a manner that is very clean and leaves a lot of flexibility. They have added the ability to purchase movies which really isn't for me but I imagine a lot of people will like. They also have a shitload of TV shows you can download. They also made the interface you see when you plugin and manage your ipod a lot better.

The thing I like the most is a technology they bought called cover flow. It automatically downloads cover art from the album of all the songs in your collection and makes it so you "flip through them" as if it was a physical collection. They may have single handedly saved the idea of cover art...

It took me twice as long to download a tv show last night using the new version as compared to a week ago with version 6. I don't know if it has to do with the new version or my computer.

I think the video files are higher quality...so bigger file. I could be wrong. I am pretty impressed with all the content...

Having episodes for shows like Venture Bros., ATHF, Stella, and Sealab 2021.

That would be cool as shit...MTV has stuff on there but not really older stuff. It could happen but I would be very very surprised.

Doesn't this belong in the MediaCenter forum?

Where's a mod when we need one

:)

It would be nice to have HD options in the future. They would probably take 2-3 days to download but you could dump them right into your Media Center PC and play them from there.

This is a nice addition though and a step in the right direction.

In the first quarter of next year Apple is going to have a box that you hook up to your TV and will allow you to watch your DL movies and TV shows on your TV wirelessly from your Mac or PC. Going to retail for $299 Working name is iTV but that'll change since some other company has that name.

Yeah, I'm a big Apple fanboy so I downloaded the new version as soon as I got home.

I think the reason for the slower downloads was for two reasons:

1) as was said, larger files...640 x 480 now on all TV shows, music videos, and movies (up from 320 x 240...4 times better resolution)

2) lots of people probably downloading the new software, new shows, movies, etc.

I think the best announcement yesterday was the upcoming product referred to as iTV (it will have a different name). Basically, a small appliance that you connect to your TV which will allow you to wirelessly stream music, photos, TV shows, movies, etc. from your PC to your TV.

Cool that they integrated Cover Flow. My brother has had it on his iTunes for a while now as an open source app. He showed it to me on vacation, and I thought it was pretty badass.

I gave it a spin today.

The CD cover view is a nice enhancment although practicly worthless when you have over a couple dozen cds. It takes awhile to find the cd I want with my couple hundred cd's...

Nice interface enhancements, like the video support. I wish they would support WMV movies though...yeah I know it is microsofts format but damn it would be cool...

Finally, the compilations were being sorted funky...

I went back to WMP11. I feel it is a bit better still...
