This space is not devoted to Dan Marino, Miami's franchise quarterback. This is not even about football. This is about a good man who merely happens to be a good quarterback.

During this tumultuous season you have probably grown tired of the debates whether Marino should start ahead of Damon Huard, whether Marino can get along with Jimmy Johnson, whether Marino should call it quits after 17 years in the league.

Both sides of each dialogue has its staunch advocates. But talk about Marino, the person, the South Florida citizen, the family man, and there can be no debate.

Iím not saying that Damon Huard should replace Dan Marino, but here are some numbers that are sure to get Jimmy Johnsonís mind going. Huard ranks third-best in the NFL in percentage of passes intercepted (2/120, 1.7%), while Marino is an uninspiring No. 19 (5/143, 3.5%). Furthermore, Huard ranks sixth in the NFL in percentage of first downs on third-down passes (19/43, 44.2%), while Marino ranks seventh-worst in the league (11/37, 29.7%). When you think of Johnsonís philosophy, he wants to win with the running game, which means he wants his quarterback to avoid mistakes at all times and move the chains on third down. Huard has been better statistically than Marino on both counts this season.

Given the chance...no one knows.

Huard has a good game in Dungver W/L. he will prove something as a backup that can come in if needed.

A bad game, major FUs then we know what we got won't work.

If Huard looks really good and leads us to a win against the donks then maybe we could start him the rest of the season and let Trent play right tackle (that cat can block some people). There, problem solved.
