Starts in a little over an hour. What does everyone think about the Jayhawks' chances? I gotta admit that I'm a little nervous. Toledo has been a good team in recent years and they are very tough to beat at home. Kansas hasn't exactly been very good on the road under Mangino. All that being said, I still like our chances.

"They are going to have the crowd on their side, but we have to create our own atmosphere. It is going to be like playing on our turf, just at a different stadium. Their stadium is cool. They have a nice streak there, but we are going to go out and play our ball." -- KU defensive tackle James McClinton.

There were several players that weren't starters but got signifigant playing time last year. A lot of the are still here. Getting Aqib Talib back at CB this week should help some.

I remember Dave Krieg did it a few times. I always loved that play. You would only want to do it 2-3 times a game though, kinda risky.
But it worked more then not.

The Big 12 is overrated.I don't know that anybody overrates the Big 12 this year (well, except the homer directly above me, lmao). Texas is the only legitimate team in the whole conference and Ohio State obliterated them. Oklahoma is a loss waiting to happen. Nebraska is probably going to be obliterated by USC tomorrow. Hell, Missouri may win the north, assuming they can beat New Mexico as badly as they should tomorrow, as odd as that sounds.

Either way, it's clearly a down year.

what?? i think the big 12 has the defending national champion and they also have like 4 top 25 teams you can't rate the big 12 based on KU and ISU

- Texas getting beat down at home by Ohio State

- Colorado, who was in the Big 12 title game last year, is losing to 1-AA teams

- KU and ISU have more than had their hands full with Toledo

- Oklahoma has no quarterback and their defense isn't what it used to be

- Nebraska is going to get pounded by USC tomorrow night

that a big leap, probably noone in the big 12 will be undefeated this year north or southThe point was that Missouri has as much chance as Nebraska or Iowa State or Kansas State or KU. It's kind of wide open, but from what I've seen myself, it looks like Nebraska and MU, and then everyone else. I was hoping KU would have a better showing tonight. Maybe they pull it out.

(Colorado doesn't merit mention)

ok now there is something we can agree on....is that where usc is heading when the scandal works itself out???

keg in kc
09-15-2006, 09:07 PM
USC would head that way without the scandal, I think. NCAA football has the same kind of parity as the NFL with the reduction of scholarships. They'll stay good, like Miami and FSU have, but not dominant. Another 4-5 year "dynasty" is waiting in the wings at some other D-1 school.

Yep, one of the gutsiest calls I have ever seen. Remember the play that set that up? It was a check down to LJ right over the middle that went for about 30 yards. It is always open. I don't know why we don't run it till they stop it. They would have to move somebody to stop it. Then we go after the space he left open.

Mangino must have already eaten has he has elected for OT.Is there any kind of record for the two fattest coaches to coach a game? Toledo's coach is a fat ass as well. I am sorry but it's just embarrasing to the state of Kansas watching Mangino waddle along the sideline.

Toledo doesn't go for the FG, now KU fumbles, now Meier lofts another duck for an INT. The allure of this game has become the comedy factor, and I want to see the coaches try and hug after this slugfest. Oh Toledo just won. Look at that embrace, thats alot of fat.

Dude, if this quote from Bush doesn't scream "I'M GUILTY!!!" then nothing does:

It makes you want to go out there right away and tell your side of the story. Show everybody the facts, the truth. But you can't do that. That wouldn't be the right way to do it.

Why is it black athletes always use this line? "Oh, when the truth comes out you'll finally see that I'm innocent, but I can't tell the truth right now. You know, just because".

Reggie Bush is in the NFL now so honestly I don't care. Since USC has pretty much been on top of college football for 3-4 years now people are gonna keep digging and digging till they find something. Well, if kU thinks it can slip the worst of the NCAA violations by claiming the coach didn't know what his grad. assistants were doing, I'm pretty sure USC will be OK with a player and his parents scamming agents without knowledge of the coach...

This game was a shame. Kansas outplayed Toledo in every way except one......turnovers. I guess that's going to happen when you have a redshirt freshman QB. I really wish the coaches would've ran an option or just a straight up run out of the I formation. Kerry Meier showed some flashes, but he made a lot of stupid freshman mistakes. It's too bad we wasted that great defensive effort.

And they really need to work with him on looking off the coverage. Locking onto receivers leads to intereceptions.

Amen. Mangino is a joke when it comes to clock management and judgement. Give me a break...you are on the road facing a team who took another Big 12 team Iowa State to 3 overtimes, you are tied, you have the ball, you have 2 time outs left and you have time to get the ball downfield to attempt a field goal. He stupidly wasted the clock and plays for overtime. What a dissapointment. Nice judgement by Perkins too to award a coach who has a terrible away record. KU will be lucky to win 3 more games this season.

Dude, Mangino has made KU's football program respectable. It was a joke before he got here. I would cut him a little slack. I don't agree with some of the calls late in the game last night, but I don't think Mangino is a bad coach overall. You gotta remember we have a redshirt freshman QB. Young QBs make mistakes. I think the coaches were trying to show some confidence in him. Of course, that was a bad coaching decision. But they did a good job on pretty much every other aspect of the game. I think KU will win a couple road games this year.

I am not saying Mangino is a bad coach. I agree he has changed the image of KU football. I was just referring to his history in games. He has demonstrated some terrible clock management skills especially on the road. He learned from the best. Look at Stoops today...he wastes 3 time outs in the first half...in the first quarter. It seems like sometimes the game is going to quickly for our coaches to respond. i.e. the last weeks almost loss to LA Monroe. I think he has did an admirable job as a recruiter and coach during his short tenure.
