OK, I know there are too many to really provide a good list, and I expect Other to get alot of votes. But just to see what the "Rock Band of the Planet" is, I give you a poll

OK, it's going to be pretty tough to pick just one.

I'd say longest lasting overall consistent favorite- AC/DC
Fav new band- Coldplay

If you're actually counting The Beatles as 'Rock,' then they win.
If you're referring to real 'Rock,' it's Guns'n'Roses with The Who and AC/DC neck and neck close behind.
The rest are either, IMO, sub genres [Hair Bands, Punk/Funk, Prog Rock, Ballad Rock, Metal, Grunge, Stadium/Anthem Rock, etc.], or too new to get a bead on their place in the pantheon.

Really tough choice between AC/DC and Metallica. I went with AC/DC since I seem to be in possession of 6 of their albums vs 3 for Metallica.

Favorite new band right now is Hinder. I've been listening to their "Extreme Behavior" quite a bit lately.

Too hard to do imo. So I'm not going to go by my tastes at all.
I'm going to go by longevity as a group...so it would be the Stones.
But I can't really stand the Stones.

The Stones get sub-genred into heavy delta blues [w/Zep] early, and Stadium Rock later.

My knowledge of genres isnt' that good. Anyhow, I am picking by longevity so it doesn't matter for this purpose, at least for me to be able to pick just one.

You're free to define 'favorite' by longevity, just making sure you realize the criteria is 'favorite.' ;)

LOL! I quickly forgot the thread title after I read the first post. Had more of the idea of an all-time favorite for all here. Still, I can't pick just one.

Lemme see how I can spin my way outta this one? :hmmm:

Stones would be a "favorite" for the purpose of having to pick one for this board.

If I had to pick for myself only...I have now checked "Other" — R.E.M.

TOOL may eventually take over my #1 spot (which is Floyd now), but I would like to see a few more albums.

I like Floyd because there is so much to listen to and every album is different than the one before it.

And my other would have to be Creedence. (They should be on your list up there really.)

I think the greatest rock band of all times, based on level of talent, creativity, and memorable music is Led Zeppelin.
My favovrite band of all time is XTC.

Good call on Flaming Lips though...time will tell

Actually, my favorite is a 5-way tie (one of which I'm surprised wasn't listed):

Helloween
Gamma Ray
Nightwish
Judas Priest (surprised they weren't listed, since Iron Maiden was)
Iron Maiden

Of those listed:

Iron Maiden

No, but your close, birthdate is July 10, 1950. I graduated high school in 1968, same year as my first concert, Vanilla Fudge with Carmine Appice on drums. Growing up in St. Petersburg, Florida I was able to catch the Allman Bros, who were also from Florida not Georgia, playing in a local club before their first album was released. It was a fantastic show that I can still remember bits and pieces about and the headliner was Cat Mother and the Allnight News Boys, which were awful. One tibit about them is their debut album was produced by Jimi Hendrix.

What do you mean by "rock"? Dude, there are so many genres out there that you've just melded every single genre into one. If that's the case, then the greatest "rock" band ever would have to be The Rolling Stones- 'cause quite frankly, they've endured the longest career of any band and have scored more hit singles than anyone. Not to mention, nearly all rock bands afterwards owe their roots to The Stones.

If you want OUR list of favorites, then there is no need for you to post your own poll 'cause I can honestly tell you this much- Panic! At the Disco sure the fugg ain't one of the best bands ever. They haven't even been on tour long enough to want to beat the crap out of each other.

Out of all those bands I had to go with the Beatles as being my favorite band of all time, but the term rock implies hard rock to me, so the poll is a bit confusing. That being said, I'm surprised to have the lone vote for the Beatles.

Rush can't even get a nod on a lame thread-no wonder they can't get into the Hall of Shame, while tons of lame bands do.

Stones have always been over rated-If you want the GREATEST pre 70's-Led Zep is hands down the best. After 1974-Rush has been the most influencial, best musicians, song writers, and best in concert for over 30 years.
