Bible-Spouting Group Plans to Picket Amish Funerals
By Susan Jones
CNSNews.com Senior Editor
October 04, 2006

(CNSNews.com) - A Kansas-based group that says "God hates fags" plans to picket the funerals of the Amish girls killed by a disturbed man in Lancaster County, Pa.

The Westboro Baptist Church -- described as a hate group by the Anti-Defamation League -- has made a name for itself by picketing the funerals of U.S. troops killed in Iraq. The troops are dying as punishment for America's tolerance of homosexuality, the group says.

The Westboro group says the Amish school girls were "killed by a madman in punishment for Gov. Ed Rendell's blasphemous sins against Westboro Baptist Church.

"Gov. Ed Rendell -- speaking and acting in his official capacity to bind the State of Pennsylvania -- slandered and mocked and ridiculed and condemned Westboro Baptist Church on national Fox TV," the group says on its website.

"Rendell also revealed a conspiracy to employ the State's police powers to destroy WBC in order to silence WBC's Gospel message. Co-conspirators identified by Rendell included state officials, citizens, lawyers, legislators and media," the website says.

Westboro Baptist Church said it is "continuing to pray for even worse punishment upon Pennsylvania."

A number of states have passed laws to keep groups like Westboro away from grieving families at funerals, but last month, a federal judge ruled that a Kentucky law barring protests within 300 feet of military funerals and memorial services is too broad and may not be enforced.

In other developments, the man who shot and killed five Amish schoolgirls apparently planned to sexually abuse them first, investigators said. But he apparently didn't get a chance: Charles Carl Roberts IV killed himself when police arrived on the scene.

Suicide notes left by Roberts indicate he was dreaming of molesting girls. He reportedly told his wife he had molested two young relatives 20 years ago - and wanted to do it again.

"It's very possible that he intended to victimize these children in many ways prior to executing them and killing himself," State Police Commissioner Jeffrey Miller said on Tuesday.

Roberts also indicated he was anguished over the death of a daughter who died shortly after birth nine years ago. In his notes, he said he was "filled with so much hate" and "unimaginable emptiness," but everyone who knew him said they never saw signs of his psychological distress.

These people make me sick. What a bunch of non-sensical attention whores. They can get away with it because it is legal, but I guarantee God will have a thing or two to say about it when they stand before him someday.

911: This is the 911 operator. Is there an emergency?

Fred Phelps: There's a crazy man here with a gun! Help!

911: I show this being Westboro Church. Is that correct?

Fred Phelps: Yes! Hurry! He's tying us up and he's planning to sodomize us!

911: Oooooookie dokie, Mr. Phelps. Sodomize you, you say?

Fred Phelps: Yes! Send someone right away!

911: Um, yeah...about that. We're kind of busy right now protecting the funeral of a soldier. How about we get back with you in a day or so?

Part 2, Outside the Westboro Baptist Church

Sheriff (on bullhorn): We have the church surrounded. May we speak to the gunman?

Gunman: I'm in here, and I've got them all tied up! I'm sodomizing them, and I'm going to shoot them all if you try to charge in here.

Sheriff: We will NOT charge the place. Believe me, we will NOT charge the place. So, take your time.

Gunman: I want some money...and something to drink. Some Mountain Dew!

Sheriff: Sure thing. It's on its way. Can I get you some pizza or something, too?

Deputy (whispering to sheriff): Pssst, pssst, pssst.

Sheriff: Oh, yeah. Cialis. Would you like some Cialis?

Deputy (whispering to sheriff): Pssst, pssst, pssst.

Sheriff: Also, we'll be having a shift change at 4:00. For ten minutes, nobody will be guarding the back door.

My church denomination had their general assembly in KC a few years back and the Phelps gang was there picketing. They were yelling as we went by, etc, etc. Things like "God hates you", "You're going to hell", "you worship Satan", etc. etc. Of course, it wasn't a funeral service, so not at all as bad.... but here's what I thought was probably one of the neatest things I've seen...instead of getting pissed and angry and yelling back, the Youth - like 50 high school youth of our denomination - had all made signs and were standing right with the Phelps gang...and their signs said things like, "May the peace of God be with you", "We offer our prayers for your hate to be turned into love", "God loves even you and even me", etc. etc... It was such an expression of grace.

Fred Phelps
God may Hate Fags, but someone should tell Rev. Phelps he looks totally gay in a cowboy hat.

Phelps is a former Eagle Scout. He runs the infamous God Hates Fags website, featuring among other things, a timeclock: Matthew Shepard has been in hell for 1607 days. Phelpsisms:

"You can't preach the Bible without preaching hatred."

"God doesn't hate them because they're Rump Rangers; they're Rump Rangers because God hates them."

If Fred Phelps has made one mistake (and he's made several), it's taking the word of God literally. Phelps read the Old Testament and embraced some of its more controversial messages. Ironically, Fred might be more consistent in his biblical interpretation than his pro-gay Judeochristian brethren.

Rebuked Jerry Falwell for hosting a summit devoted to nonviolence against homosexuals.

Timeline
13 Nov 1929 Fred Phelps born, Meridian, Mississippi.
Dec 1944 Fred Phelps Sr. marries Olive Briggs, age 39.
8 Sep 1947 Ordained a Southern Baptist minister.
1951 Meets future wife, Margie, at Arizona Bible Institute, Phoenix AZ.
11 Jun 1951 Campaign to stamp out necking and petting on campus makes Time Magazine.
15 May 1952 Marries Margie M.
Nov 1955 Becomes pastor, Westboro Baptist Church, Topeka KS.
1966 Doctors court records to indicate he had been paid $250 to handle a divorce case, instead of the $50 he actually received. The extra $200 came from Phelps illegally pocketing the bond posted by the wife to free the husband from jail.
May 1966 Files to run as a Democrat for Kansas State House, 45th District.
1969 Brought before State Board of Law Examiners, on seven counts of professional misconduct. Attorney General Kent Frizzell: Phelps' conduct "is one of total disregard for the duties and the respect and consideration owed by an attorney to his clients. Where money is concerned, the accused simply lacks any sense of balance and proportion. Whatever the reason for this, it appears to me a permanent condition." Phelps is suspended for two years from practicing law.
1970 On the first anniversary of his suspension from practicing law, administers a harsh crewcut to his wife.
28 Sep 1972 Ruled disqualified to running for District Attorney, due to suspension. He ran in the August primary unopposed.
Nov 1973 Files a $50,000,000 suit against Sears Roebuck, Inc., because the $186 television they purchased on layaway and paid off early would not be ready until Christmas (exactly as specified in the contract Phelps signed.)
14 Oct 1977 Fred Phelps Sr. dies, age 84.
8 Nov 1977 Kansas files a complaint seeking Phelps disbarrment.
1979 The Kansas Supreme Court disbars Fred Phelps, declaring in part that he had "little regard for the ethics of his profession."
16 Dec 1985 Nine Federal court judges file a disciplinary complaint against Fred Phelps and six of his attorney relatives, claiming that Phelps and his brood had made false accusations against them.
29 Jun 1985 Stepmother, Olive Briggs Phelps dies, age 82.
1989 Fred Phelps surrenders his license to practice law in Federal court.
1991 Westboro Baptist Church stages its first public demonstration at a public park in Topeka, Kansas.
19 Apr 1996 Westboro Baptist Church flier:

Fag Jew Nazis are worse than ordinary Nazis. They've had more experience. Jews stirred up the Romans to butcher 6 million Christians in the catacombs in the 1st century. The First Holocaust was a Jewish Holocaust against Christians. The latest Holocaust is by Topeka Jews against WBC.

13 Nov 1996 Westboro Baptist Church press release:

Anybody babbling about 'multicultural affairs' and 'celebrating diversity' is a propagandist for the militant sodomite agenda...Westboro Baptists will picket this black obfuscator, in religious protest and warning. Being black won't get you to Heaven. But promoting Rump Rangers will take you to Hell.

5 Jul 1997 Fred Phelps sends a letter to Russian President Boris Yeltsin:

Homosexuals now pervade and control American government at every level and branch. Thus, only those churches that support and promote the militant homosexual agenda enjoy religious freedom. Any church in America that dares to preach what the Bible says about soul-damning, nation-destroying moral filth of the vile homosexual beasts among us, loses all Constitutional guarantees of religious freedom and speech rights.

30 Nov 1997 Fred Phelps sends a letter to Saddam Hussein:

We understand that Iraq is the only Muslim state that allows the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to be freely and openly preached on the streets without fear of arrest and prosecution. Alas, the United States no longer allows the Gospel to be freely and openly preached on the streets, because militant sodomites now control our government, and they violently object to the Bible message...The same majoritarian sodomite tyranny that now guides the Clinton administration's repressive policies toward Gospel preaching on America's streets, is apparently responsible -- at least in part -- for the merciless slaughter by starvation of 400 innocent Iraqi babies each day in your country. If our government and laws will allow it, and at the invitation of your government, we would like to send a delegation from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kansas, to preach the Gospel on the streets of Baghdad for one week in the near future.

15 Jan 1998 Westboro Baptist Church press release:

Filthy sodomites crave legitimacy as dogs eating their own vomit & sows wallowing in their own feces crave unconditional love.

17 Oct 1998 The Westboro Baptist Church pickets Matthew Shepard's funeral.
5 Jun 2000 Westboro Baptist Church flier:

Fag priests and dyke nuns is the order of the day for Kansas Catholics. They deserve the sick, perverted leadership that now dooms and damns them.

I only have the media here in the bay area to go by. Even at Christmas when the poor are being fed they don't usually report about what any of the churches are doing they find a place that is helping without christian roots. I know the church does a lot to help humanity I just wish they would report on that instead of constantly reporting on groups like this. Trust me when I say I have huge problems with religious right pushing their moral agenda I just think the media should try and be more balanced in reporting their actions.

I had the displeasure of experiencing Phelps first hand last month at the funeral of a friend of mine who was an EMT and medic in the navy reserves and was killed in Iraq. I was afraid Phelps may show up and they did. They had their signs and were yelling from across the street. The bagpipe players who were in the funeral procession started playing by them to drown them out. Then a fire truck pulled in between them and the funeral attendees to block them from view and reved the engine to drown them out.

The beliefs of suicide bombers almost make more sense to me than the beliefs of Phelps group. How do you protest an Amish funeral, where they are more removed from the American lifestyle than any of Phelps group? If one of Phelps group dies will they picket their own funeral? I know there are probably thousands of people, myself included, who can't wait for Fred Phelps funeral. Unfortuantly his daughter is equally nuts so it won't end there.

Fred and his cult is just him and family members. They rarely if ever allow anyone that is not a blood relative into the group. You do have to be careful what you say or do around them because the majority of his kids are lawyers as was he before he was disbarred. I had a friend drive by and toss a paint balloon at his group while they picketed our church. (I am catholic so I get to see his pickets at least once a month) My friend ended up getting visited by an officer because Fred and company always had video tapes rolling on the pickets. Thing is though, the Amish don't feel that way and wouldn't want us to either. One of the worst things for the Amish would be for someone to commit violence against another human on their behalf.

The Phelps crew can protest all they want, the Amish will forgive them.

It seems so sad and wrong to protest that funeral and invade these poor people at their time of ultimate grief but we don't have to worry for them.

The Amish have something Phelps and his kind will never, ever have: peace with themselves and with their God.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15120230/

I know this is slightly off topic but it serves as a relevant contrast to the WBC. This article had me in tears by the end. Some excerpts:

"We don't know what God's purpose is," John told me, "but we believe there is a purpose."

"We're very concerned that no message of revenge gets out," he said. "We believe in forgiveness.

"Life has to go on, we have to pick up the pieces and go on," he said almost matter-of-factly.

I asked if he thought the shooting would change the way of life around here? "No, not at all," Stoltzfus answered without hesitation. "They believe what happened was God ordained," he said. "They don't want to be trapped by bitterness."

John said the community is especially concerned that many of the children who were killed or wounded have young parents in their mid-20's to mid-30's. Brothers who escaped had to leave sisters behind with the gunman.

I had heard that some people from the Amish community were perhaps going to meet with Marie Roberts, the gunman's wife. John assured me that would happen soon, if it hadn't already.

"They need support, they need help," he said. "We will send them flowers." He expressed concern about how difficult it would be for the three Roberts children when they return to school.

Those are some beautiful people.

He either attended St. Joseph's or used to go to school there, and my manager has a daughter that is an 8th grader at St. Joe's. All of the 7th and 8th graders lined the streets with American flags for the funeral procession, but they had to get a letter of censent signed by the parents before hand, since the school knew what they would witness with Phelps being there.

It certainly isn't the largest sample but in my 34 years of living I know more people and kids that have had their lives screwed up by whacko, extreme religion than by gambling or even drugs for that matter. I'm certainly not implying that is the case around the entire country but that has certainly been the case in my world.

Yeah, his family are longtime St. Joseph members. He went to school there as well. I thought it was nice the kids were there, although I felt it might be pretty heavy for them with all the fanfare and then the Phelps crap going on as well. But then, they probably learned more about life standing out there than they would all day in school. They even stood outside the school as the processional was leaving. Again, it was very nice.

I think it was Michael Reagan who was on a newshow over the lunch hour. He had the #2 phelptard, Fred's dyke daughter on his show this morning. He said instead of shouting at her, he said "what do I have to do to get you to leave these people alone? Money?" "We don't need your damn devil money" She then said they had to do it to get their agenda heard.
So he offered 1hr of his program to them. I guess they're working up some agreement, that he'll give them 1hr of his nationally syndicated program, and if they still protest the Amish Funerals, they have to pay him $500k.

He said it sucked to give them a national stage, but thought it was worth it this time.

What I have a hard time understanding is how can hate groups like this do the following...
Link any and all issues to homosexuality. A soldier is killed in Iraq doing what he is told to do by his commanding officer and all of a sudden these "Phelpinians" protest the funeral. So they show up and totaly ruin a private moment and taint the final memory a family has with their loved ones. The soldiers are'nt gay but that doese'nt matter to these buffoons.

Without reason take a national tradgedy and spin it to further their cause: I remember after 9-11 these ignorant people stating that God wanted these thousands of people to die because too many american men like rectal insertions and too many Female Americans enjoy flavored jelly and strap-on's. This makes no sense to me whatsoever. Does God really care? I think God probably likes Lesbians anyway, who doese'nt?

Look what they do to children...I saw a protest here in Omaha a few years back where this Homophobe had five year old kids screaming the most hate-filled things you could imagine. I heard one little girl scream, "God hates all you Fags!!! You are all going to burn in hell forever!!!" I was shocked at this. They took all the innocense away from this child to further their cause.

Sorry to rant here but has this butt-pirate ever heard of live and let live???

HARRISBURG, Pa. -- A Topeka, Kan., church group that pickets military funerals dropped plans to protest funerals of five Amish girls fatally shot in Pennsylvania this week.

Instead, members of the Westboro Baptist Church issued a statement saying a representative will appear on a nationally syndicated radio talk show.

The Web site of show host Mike Gallagher indicated the group was offered an hour of airtime Thursday in exchange for dropping the planned demonstration.

Phelps and his ilk are not Christian, they are self-absorbed and delusional freaks. Similar to those who subscribe to the philosophy and politics of hedonistic-nihilism. They are simply the reactionary equivalent.

Hedonistic-nihilism? WTF is that, you ask? (Heh.....this post of mine from DC deserved a place here in the Lounge.)

;)

From my point of view, hedonistic nihilism is the "moral" perspective that some people take, that the government should not legislate anything that can construed as "morality" (even if only by a small minority of perverts and deviants)....usually it's in the name of radical individualism (individual "rights" and "liberties," are the rhetoric it's usually couched in)....and it is usually advanced by liberals and some libertarians, to one extent or another. In this case, RWNJ Conservative religious wackos have embraced the notion....too.

Usually, it is a rejection of social norms, any significant agreed upon standard for right and wrong, and of the government's role in promoting a more virtuous society, and it is a ruse--it is 90% bullshit that ignorant and self-absorbed people buy into.

It is a transparent disguise for the real motivation....to permit, to condone, or (at the least) to place beyond public scrutiny any pursuit of pleasure or decadence, no matter how perverted or how unpopular. In a democratic society, it's goal is to bring about a Utopian anarchy that is deeply rooted in a self-absorbed narcissism which rejects concepts like general welfare and the common good--insofar as they may interfere with one's own hedonistic desires.

:D

Well, there it is.....you got it. Put that in your hash pipe and smoke it....after gay sex with a self-hating tranny in Las Vegas.

:)

FTR, I am NOT advocating anything remotely approaching a theocracy. I'm advocating virtue, and I maintain that the government has a proper role to play....just as Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, etc. did.
