I didn't see this posted, but on 810 this morning, I heard Herm talk about John Wellbourne's eventual return to the team. This would be a boost, wouldn't it?

If he's in shape and can pee clear in a cup, then yes, it is.

I thought retirement did solve the problem of a suspension. Ricky Williams retired to avoid a suspension. When he returned to the NFL, he still had to serve his suspension. So, is Wellbourn not actually retired? Is he serving his suspension now? Would he play LT or RT?

I don't know if it'll make much of a difference. He can't play LT can he? Sampson is pretty well settled at RT imo.

Even if he doesn't start he will provide depth. With Svitek and Turley injured we are dangerously thin.

As Basileus said he'd be good depth plus obviously knows the system. I just wish Crampson would get the sand outta his vaj , i thought he looked very good at dinvr but he seems to be made of glass. A big, white Michael Bennett.

I'm sure he'd have to serve a suspension, but can he practice with the team in order to get back into game shape, and refamiliarize(word?) himself with the offens while he is serving it?

He's not "officially" retired. He never turned in his papers. As far as I know, he's currently "suspended," so he can come back once he's served his time.

actually i beleive they dont accept clear piss, it has to have a yellow tint to it, otherwise they might expect some tampering

We definetly need him for depth if anything.

Looking ahead to next year, I'd love to have Welbourne replace Will Shields, or if we really need him at tackle, we can put Black in at guard, which is a much better position for him.

Yeah, but did the league ever come out and say how long of a suspension it would be? and if not, since he is not on the retired list, would he get credit for the games that have been played already?

Is Shields retiring for sure after this year? Maybe with the lighter load Herm has put on him he'll come back for another year, I seem to remember his agent stating he was ready for another year or two in the NFL...

Also, I'd LOVE to see Welbourne back, he's way better than Sampson...that and he'd provide excellent depth. He played very well last year IMO.

He was suspended for six games, so he should be eligible to return for the Seahawks. I seriously doubt we'd see him in action that soon, though. IF they bring him back, it'll take a few weeks for him to get back into the swing of things, I'd imagine.

Thanks Daface, it will be interesting to see what Carl does, because in that link you posted, he didn't seem like he wanted him back.

Welbourne for Shields next year does have a pleasant ring to it.

Yep, theres a dozen ifs about the guy. I'm basing it on past performance only. Not being on a roid cycle definitely could expose him as old n' washed up.

I like people who don't want him back when he'd be the 2nd best lineman on the team.......yea man a taem with Oline issues should just turn it's nose up at a quality lineman and tell him to get lost, brilliant.

If he can come back and play after week 6, and has the motivation, get his ass in KC the day before.

2nd best lineman?

Did Waters, Shields and Weiggman fall off the face of the earth?

Also, he came back last year after his 4 game suspension and started so I don't see any reason he couldn't do the same this year.

Waters is the only one who's clearly better......Shields isn't near the player he once was and Wiegmans had his moments of looking pretty piss poor this year.

Shields on one leg, is better than Welbourne.

Having moments of looking poor in 3 games, and being poor when you've produced for the last 5 years at a very high level, are two different things.

No, he could not because it involved performance enhancing drugs. In fact he can not have any contact (formal or informal) with team personnel during the suspension. Players serving these kinds of suspensions may not attend any games (they may not buy a ticket & sit in the stands).

Players suspended for DUI related stuff may practice, attend team meetings, and attend away games (the player would pay expenses). The player could not attend home games. (At least that how it was for Warfield last year.)

I'd rather win without a cheat. But if the choice is winning with a cheat or losing without one, I'll take winning with one.

Do we know what the substance was, and the circumstances surrounding the test? Maybe he was hurt and thought it was the best for the team, we were in the hunt for the playoffs last year.

I hate cheating, but roids or not, welbourne is a smart tough, skilled, and downright nasty mofo. With him and Turley, we would be knocking some people on they ass. And we would be 16-0 in postgame parking lot fights.

Could have been something as stupid as Saurbut here in Denver taking diet pills. The way this line is playing we could use him. That being said, King Carl will probably say no.

Coach has stressed for as long as I can remember after he was hired that he is only concerned with players in practise, stressing continuity. Based on this I don't count on seeing said player or any others returning to the team this season.
