I have heard Al Saunders, but Adam Teicher reported that he is being considered for a HC position in Houston.

No interest in Norv Turner for the job of OC? I have always been a fan of his.
After watching you guys for about 6 months I have joined your board. You all seem like educated fans and I look forward to conversing with you all.

He'll (Saunders) be waiting for a while on that job in Houston. They don't plan to hire any coaches for a while. I can't remember the actual time frame, but it was later this year.

Here are some excerpts from a new article that just appeared on the KCStar.com website:

quote:
Cunningham, who all this week was an early arrival for work, did not appear at Arrowhead Stadium Thursday morning.

Later in the day, Cunningham's wife, Rene, came to the door of their home -- adorned with a Chiefs logo on the garage and a recyclable Christmas tree on the lawn -- and said the coach had "nothing to say" right now.

From the WHB web site:

Gunther out; Vermeil in

Sources close to the Chiefs have confirmed to Sports Radio 810 WHB that Head Coach Gunther Cunningham has been fired after two seasons in Kansas City.

The once popular defensive coordinator compiled a 16-16 record over those seasons, with zero trips to the playoffs. Cunningham will be replaced by 64 year old Dick Vermeil. Most recently, Vermeil was the head coach of the St Louis Rams during their run to last year's Super Bowl Championship.

Vermeil and Chiefs General Manager Carl Peterson have been very close friends for years. Tbey worked together at UCLA and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Cunningham and the Chiefs have been unavailable for comment so far today and no press conferences have been scheduled.

Funny how Peterson has been "unavailable for comment" in almost every article circulating, but posts a denial on KCChiefs.com.

Does anything about this organization resemble "normal" any more?
Welcome, Big Deal 23! You certainly picked a big day to chime in!

Turner's name has been tossed around here as OC. I wouldn't mind seeing that happen.

What is the word on compensation to the Rams? Can we get away with giving them the picks we got for Marty, or is Old Dick more expensive than that?

redhed

No word on compensation to Rams yet.

I do know that the Chiefs will get at least 2 third rounders from Washington for Marty.

I was under the understanding that the line for compensation had been determined with Ron Wolf last year. Does this not apply to this year? Ken????

Bob Dole

Bob Dole thinks the compensation issue is a case-by-case decision between the involved parties. While there might be precedent, there is nothing "carved in stone." If memory serves, Green Bay had initially talked a 1st and 4th pick for Marty, and there was all kinds of strange pick swapping involved with the Belichick hire.

How about us giving the Rams Gunther for DC, but paying his salary for the two years left on his contract. We are going to have to eat that anyway. We pay his salary, and they get a better than average DC. Sounds good to me.

That is actually the speculation on WHB 810 this afternoon concerning Gun to the Rams. I would bet that that is a possibility, and a not too far fetched one at that.
It makes sense, if egos don't get in the way.

The Chiefs need a new HC, the Rams need a new DC and Gunther needs a new job. Sounds like a match made in Heaven.

I like kcred's idea about paying Gunther's salary if that's what it takes to make the deal. It is a small price to live Stooge-free.

Updated article on ESPN.com that says Vermeil has agreed to be the KC coach and Lamar contends ..."that his team did not need to get permission from the Rams to hire Vermeil."
