Leadership, build team comraderie, get them focused on one goal, bring in good assistants, let them focus on their jobs, get the job done.

"Now, I heard that Marty (Schottenheimer) was a little emotional," said Jones, who will be an unrestricted free agent this off-season. "But I don't think he's as emotional as (Vermeil). The first couple of years, I'll be honest, we didn't know what to make of (Vermeil's crying). We had never seen it. But in the second year, we kind of got to know him and the team got really close."

Jones said Vermeil created a college atmosphere in St. Louis. Vermeil would invite the players in groups to his home and cook them dinner. He'd have the older, married players over one night and the single rookies the next night.

"He'd do the cooking himself," Jones said. "He can burn. I'm not kidding. He can burn. He had a giant pit in his back yard, and he'd barbecue. He'd do steak or chicken. He liked cooking."

The backyard get-togethers, Jones said, helped create the cohesiveness that the Rams used to win the 2000 Super Bowl.

"I don't want to say that we didn't miss him. We didn't realize how hard it was going to be to get back. It was so easy last year," Jones said. "I think the move to Kansas City would be a good one. Kansas City is a great football town. Dick will fit right in. There are some good football players there, and Dick is going to surround them with good assistant coaches."

The key is the last sentence -

"There are some good football players there, and Dick is going to surround them with good assistant coaches."

We have not had good coaching in KC im quite some time. it will be a welcome change.<BR>

A good HC is only as good as the coaches and the players around him make him to be!

The key for me is the assistant coaches like everyone has said. If we had good assistants surrounding Gun at least this season we would have made the play-offs and Gun would still be employed.

Vermeil will attract good coaches. With the talent on this team good coaches should at least get us a wild card. I think that's where Vermeil comes in. The guy seems to be able to coach in the play offs. He knows how to focus his players, he knows what kind of effort, desire, team unity, and stamina it takes to make it through January undefeated. That is an intangible that Marty never had.

Here's to hoping Vermeil costs us nothing and brings us a Super Bowl title!
