....downloadable music player for the computer?

I had just been using Windows Media Player, but I don't really care for the sound.

What's the better option?

Is it possible to fix up Winamp for audio, and Windows Media for video? IIRC, winamp pretty much becomes default for everything, doesn't it?

Short answer is yes, to both questions. When you first install it, WinAmp tries to become the default media player for just about everything. However, there's an area in the options that says "file types." If you go in there and hit the "audio only" button, that will let WMP handle everthing else.

iTunes is by far my favorite player. The features take a bit to get used to but its well worth it. Even more useful it you have a large library since its file management is very solid.

Amarok kills them all. Of course last I checked there wasn't a Windows version.

I use WinAmp at Rancho Gaz.

I have used Music Match and found it to be a major resource hog. I tried Jet Audio, but the file management in the free version is seriously lacking. J Riverís Media Jukebox was okay, but you have to kick in $$$ for the full program. I had iTunes on my computer once and hated the way it took over. I had all kinds of problems when I removed it from the computer.

There are several free DSP plug-ins for WinAmp to configure the sound to your liking. Some are free and some are shareware.
